Fabia vRS warm up time

Featured Replies

To answer Chris_p's question of the day, here's a Vag-Com log of my journey home tonight. Took 13 minutes to get up to temperature - and waiting at traffic lights added absolutely nothing to the warming up process.

hmm would interesting to that trick on mine.... Whats interesting to me is look at the air intake temp. It goes up by almost 10degress. This something Ive long suspected and have taken measures to combat. It really starts with the t junction but just carries on getting worst from there. The coolent is taking a long time to get up there, anyway one got a vag com system in South London so we can do the same on my pd100 and see if it warms up quicker????

This thread seems to be a replay of one a couple of weeks ago including Andy's write up about adding radiator relief. My wife's performed so bad when cold we suspected a fault but diagnostics was fine. I have been using for work to check and today didn't warm up to normal temp before I was home and that's 6 miles in heavy traffic. O/S temp around 7C.

Something I have to admit I never knew before.

Watched the temp needle on my FabiaVRS this morning, got up to 90 in just over 3 mins.

I do live right next to the slip road onto the motorway to work though, and was driving pretty 'enthusiastically'.

The temperature outside was 7C

It heated up a lot quicker than I thought, but this is likely since I was straight on the motorway, full speed up a 2 mile uphill section. If I'd been driving through town slowly it would be a lot longer.

with the outside temperature about 5 degrees my Fabia VRs takes 10 - 15 minutes to get to reasonable temperature. Every diesel i've ever had (quite a few) including the fabia has no real power until the block is good and hot. Last fabia diesel I had needed a replacement thermostat from new. Made a big difference. Run an old Astra diesel estate for work that has an electric heater unit that wraps round the diesel filter. Very simple and controlled by a thermostat so it doesn't work until close to zero. Get better diesel burn straight away. Why can't fabia diesel have one of these.

What are you lot moaning about, couple of Saturdays my temp readout was reading -8 couldn't look at the temp gauge to see if car heated up for avoiding the Artic penguins running all over the road.

OK I'll open a offer..... If someone comes upto me on the London to Brighton run I will give then some radiator releif for free and help them get it into the system. Then we can have a good comparison......

So if you want his pm me or if youre already down for the run you have got my mobile and give us a ring/text

Andy, can't make the run as I'm on call , but if you don't get any takers give me a shout as I'm only 40 minutes from the M25 and I have VAG-COM and a PD100 :D

Chris

Heated seats are for pussies..... like John :gay: :D haha

My car takes 2 bends and a sqiggly bit to warm up then i get nice hot air thro the heater mmmmm toasty :yummy:

Hi guys,

well thanks for all thoose replies,

looks like we will all be in for a cold winter in the vRS.

Ordered some radiator relief for my fabia vrs today. Will let you know how it compares.

Hmmmm...... Drove out of Meridien Hotel Gatwick yesterday, temp 1C, M23/A23 to Burgess Hill. Normal temp indication in 4 miles, not exceeding 2,000rpm 'till all properly warmed up.

Heater seems to get full heat after about 6 miles. Roger M

Problem arises when your front windscreen is all steamed up and you can't get the car warm enough to clear it!

I suppose I should get a cloth to wipe it...would do anything for a heated windscreen though. Why is the rear heated and not the the front?? :(

4 miles..... im jelous!

No wonder some of your cars take ages to warm up. If you dont take it past 2krpm till its warmed up then it does take ages. Personally I keep mine always between 2krpm and 3krpm and it warms up just as quick as my old car - within 3 miles to be fully warmed up.

  • 4 weeks later...

After a lot of headscratching over the plumbing, my Furby vRS now has a Kenlowe HotStart pre-heater fitted (pics in the reviews section).

Executive summary: it works! The timeswitch kicks in while I'm still asleep, and by the time I leave the house the engine is all but fully warmed up. Quieter, smoother, warmer and more economical on my short journey to work. Will it ever pay for itself? Probably not if you only count fuel costs, but if you add in reduced engine wear, it might.

Tried radiator relief for 3 weeks now.Car warms up about 1-1.5 miles earlier, not a lot really, although heater does seem to get warmer. Fuel consumption unnaffected.Whether its worth 28 quid though is another matter.
