Secondary Air Pump Removal/Refit/Repair

Featured Replies

I thought, I would repair my Secondary Air Pump today, I’ve been putting up with the hair dryer for weeks.

Any way I followed the guide on uk-mkivs fitted it all back on and it still sounds like a har dryer!

It's a fooking nightmare to remove and refit the bracket,

but was the rivets broken or loose???? if no then that would have told you the actual internal mechanism is fecked

p.s they are noisy as standard thats why people throw them in the bin lol

berttee has one for sale if you really want one nearly new as well

Yeah all but one just span around so I was optimistic. I am tempted to pull the tw*t out now. It was loud but tolerable, now its ridiculous.

Cheers I will PM him if I want it.

I am tempted but I can't be arsed with the CEL etc. In the long run I will but I haven't got time before the weekend.

Could the SAI hoses just be planked, would it still throw CEL?

Did that with my Triumph and no problems...

Si put me a resistor In & so far the CEL light hasn't come on ;)

oggy the light will come on soon dont worry lol

as for blanking hoses thats a no as it will still see incorrect air flow and throw a cell light

You shoulnt get a cel if you fit a resistor I've had mine done a while and it's been fine.

si you do and will trust me lol

you get a incorrect flow signal the cel is only activated after xxx amounts of starts

This is why I am putting it off, I know someone with a mk4 Ibiza Cupra who removed it, put the resistors in etc and his CEL light did eventually come on. I suppose i could clear it with VAG-COM every time it comes on. I'll see.

I only really posted it so people (like me) don't think the thread on uk-mkivs is going to work 100% of the time. It probably will with most people but I usually get the **** covered end of the stick and it just so happened it didn't with me.

you done this on yours clive?

Yep the Seat forum, uk-mkiv forum all tried it and the cell will come on eventually just a matter of time.

I have reset my cell around 3 times since doing the mod. I just leave it on now, does not cause any issues.

Will get it mapped out when i next visit JKM.

ys mate i have done everything lol

got rid of the lot B)

I'm going to get rid of my sas this weekend when i fit my fmic & silicone tip & relocate the occ due to where intercooler pipes run. Anyhow back on track, I'm guessing no point in fitting the resistor. If I'm picking it up right it can be sorted when mapped so it doesn't throw fault??

AFAIK it can be mapped out, I am hoping so anyway.

i have heard that before nd believe it can be, if it cant i wont be doing mine lol

Finally got around to inspecting mine, expecting to be doing the rivet removal and bolt refit DIY. What i found was the rivets seemed to be in pretty good order and no obvious gaps, but what was obvious was that one of plastic housings where the bracket bolts go into had sheared, hence pump was being held in place by only two of the bolts. Used some araldite type stuff on it and it seems to have made a good bond, so as long is it holds, my start up noise has gone.

Interesting that the local VW specialist garage who last serviced the car didn't seem to note it was loose given it is right next to the oil filter

Hope it holds as I think that'll mean a whole new air pump if not, I spose it might stay mounted on just the two bolts though.

Funny you should post about the pump as I phoned Caffyns in Tonbridge this morning to order the three rubber bushes and bolts that hold the pump to the circular part of the bracket... £23.90 for all three!!! :o Not for my car thankfully so I'll be getting the money back but still :o

You will get a CEL with the resistor.

And it can be mapped out.

Ben at Shark provided my map with the CEL mapped out and also the one for the second o2 sensor when you de-cat.
