VRS Hire Cars

Recommended Posts

Was staying in york last week and noticed the hire car depot at the station had a few VRS Octavias. Interesting thing was that they had uk dealer plates rather than Skoda Uk plates.

Thought it was worth mentioning in case anyone sees some tempting ex Demo deals in a few months time, they were all blue. Although as my wife pointed out a hire car probably has no worse a life than a demonstrator!

they wil be way faster than normal vRS's though. everyone knows that a hire car is the fastest car on the road.

So that's what I was doing wrong when I had an Astra SRi hire car... People were flashing lights at me and sounding their horn because I wasn't doing 100 on the M6. I though there was something wrong with the car. :giggle:

I remember the good old days of seeing how fast you could go in 1st gear in an Escort Mk3!!

I also seem to remember that I once had to complain because the core plugs went in a hired Granada!

Slightly off topic, But

I remember the days of Night Rallying in MKII Escorts, when (rumour has it :giggle: ) that the easiest way to source a donor 5 Speed gearbox for a Quaife or ZF Straight Cut was to hire a Sierra for the weekend, change out the box & return it on Monday morning as a 4 speed*, remarkably no-one ever mentioned it !

* No Sierras were harmed in this process & of course, I may have just dreamed it

Picked up a hire car at stanstead a year or two ago. A fleet of Octavias there bearing the "Camden" name on their numberplates.

Remember these will all be NDSG too (Nearly Direct Shift Gearbox) the difference between tDSG and NDSG is that you still have to move the gearstick but there is no need to use the clutch!

my grandparents have returned to the uk due to illness, they've got a long term hire deal with a company my grandad used to work for before they emmigrated, they've got a astra hire car and have to take it back and swap it with the firm because its 6 months old next week which is apparently too old for hire cars! so guessing that hire company are about to sell on a load of abused 6 month old cars shortly!!!!
