2.0L PD TDi DSG --V--Fabia Vrs PD TDi

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of getting a Octavia 2.0L PD TDi Estate with the DSG box and I've noticed that the 0-60 times between the Octavia and the Fabia Vrs are much the same. Is there a big difference in acceleration

I've also got my eye on a Octavia VRs (mk 2) Petrol but I'm undecided which to go for

New or Used?

It depends what you want really. Do you need a car as big as an estate? If yes you can't really compare to Fabia.

How many miles a year are you doing? If your doing more than 20k a year you need a diesel

I don't think 0-60 times are all that important on diesels, they're more about low end torque on the move.....

Not driven a fabia vRS for a while, but done a fair few miles in a PD140 Octavia..... off the mark if feels slow to me, but once its going, its more than acceptable.

If I didn't need the space, then I'd go fabia. My Octavia may not be fancy, but it ticks most of the boxes for me at the current time !

Having not long ago moved from a Fabia vRS to a PD140 Octvavia the power delivery is very similar low down where there is a big rush of torque and off you go, however this is now where the 2 differ, the pd140 just keeps going with the same grunt and doesn't seem to get wheesy like the pd130.

Once on the move they are both rapid and the speedo needle seems to whiz round just as quick on the pd140 as it did on the pd130.

One big thing I have found is the pd140 is more economical in my everyday driving than the pd130  having said that my pd140 is manual and not dsg so can't comment on the fuel economy of the pd140 dsg

I've just bought a 2.0TDi PD 140 with DSG. Very nice car indeed, really impressed with it so far. The DSG gear box is excellent. The engine is strong and pulls well in the 1000-2500 rev range, overtaking is not an issue and I'm finding I get a 550 mile range from a full tank. I'm most surprised by just how refined this car is.

The Fabia vRS - I absolutely love this car. I found myself loving it more than the Octy vRS 2.0 TFSI I've just part-ex'd [standing by for much abuse]. It's seems to be more willing to pull than the Octy (2.0 TDi). Again the 1000-2500 rev range is where all the pull is, it delivers the power really smoothly. It's not pin you back in your seat fast, in fact only when you look at your speedo do you realise how fast you're progressing. IME it does feel quicker than the Octy but it is a lot lighter. It's quite civilised too for a small car. Not much road or engine noise once your up to speed. It only has a 40 litre fuel tank but I can still get 530 miles between fill ups. This car ticks every box!

I use both cars on a daily basis for a 80 mile motorway commute to work. Can't fault either of them.

If you need the space and also need a car that can do lots of miles between fill ups, then go for the 2.0 TDi Octy. If you don't need the space then give the Fabia vRS serious consideration. If you want excellent performance, practicality and 'reasonable' running costs then go for a Octy II vRS TFSI. The 2.0 TFSI engine is an absolute gem! Instant power delivery - you'll go searching for things to overtake.

IME - Either of these cars are excellent. It's just about going for the one that suits your needs (space, practicality, running costs etc) and the one that you like most. Good luck - not exactly a bad predicament is it?!?!?

Don't forget it's your money so get the one that YOU want!

I own both. Fabia vRS remapped and Octavia 2.0CR with DSG.

They are totally different cars and should not be compared with each other to be fair. Its like chalk and cheese.

The fabia is alot more fun to drive, very raw and enteraining. Far better on fuel than the bigger Octavia. The Octavia on the other hand so much more refined and well balanced, I can say that both are just as quick as each other but where as you know your are going fast in the Fabia in the Octavia you really have to watch it. SO I would imagen a non-mapped fabia compaired to a 140pd would probably be about the same.

The DSG is sweet and love using it!!

My fabia is currently off road whilst I wait to get the time to have its MOT done so I've been using the Octavia on my usual routes. Based on the trip computers of both the Octavia will average 52mpg and the fabia 68mpg. I would guess as the Octavia only has 4500 miles on the clock this will change as it gets more miles.

I would also thing the fabia would beat the Octavia off the line this is where the DSG loses out but the gear changes are so smooth and quick you will probably claw that back.

As for petrol or diesel? I only went for diesel again to make the car as furture proof as possible so if I change and I need to do big miles like before then I would not have to change cars as I intend to run the Octavia for the next 5-6 years. But there is a part of me that wishes I went for petrol.

As Mr Penguin said both are brill cars and do the jobs very well just depends on what you actually need from the car.

Try the launch control... Put the box in sport or manual, turn off the traction control, hold the brake down and floor the throttle. It sits at about 2200 revs and when you let go of the brake the car launches itself forwards emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Am guessing the petrol version would sit nearer 3500-400 revs but should do the same thing
