I test drove a TDi vRS DSG yesterday and loved it. After some awful experiences with Aviva Insurance i have finally got to the point where I'm ready to buy a new car. I've just finished contract hiring a BMW X3 and was looking for something a bit more fun. Initially i was looking at the A3 TDi Black Edition but it was suggested to me to look at the new vRS.

I took one out yesterday and was blown away, I can't believe the value for money factor.

This is what i have specced and hopefully will be ordering this week:

With the VAT ex offer it came to a shade under 21k. Do any of you think that i could get a better deal? The price was list less the VAT so do dealers have much room to move? I've never bought a car only contract hired them in the past so not really sure how to approach this.

Try putting the spec into the Drive The Deal Website, you may have to travel a bit to collect the car, but suspect the savings will make up for that

That seems a little expensive to me. Check Drive the Deal for the price they will give for that spec. As an example I just bought a race blue VRS extate CR with leather, heated seats, auto dimming, sunset glass, maxidot, spare wheel (need to order this) and mats and this was £19k.

Thanks for your replies, I've added the bluetooth option and going from the brochure the MaxiDot is included with that.

I've not even started to haggle yet that was a starting point. I've emailed 5 dealers with the spec so will be interesting to see who gets back to me.

Try Silbury Skoda in Cramlington near Newcastle and ask for Justin; I am sure he will sort you out with a good deal.

Also I suggest ringing and speaking to dealers as opposed to emailing.

About a month back i was looking to buy a very similar specced car as yourself.

The figures are complicated by having two trade ins but what i did find was not all dealers were offering VAT free on the options and they should be so make sure this is the case. Couldnt get much movement on price about £250 less than the VAT free price and MDI thrown in.

Drive the deal is coming in at £19962.00 which is pretty good. The dealer i was using was Farmers in Leicester, I'll call them tomorrow and make them an offer to test the water.

Congratulations. You won't be disappointed with your new purchase. I too dealt with Justin at Silbury when I ordered my vRS (which I picked up last Friday - happy days!) and he too managed to beat the DTD price. I have nothing but praise for him - the lad deserves a medal!

There's only one problem - the wait for your new toy! I waited 10 weeks for mine and I can tell you, it was the longest 10 weeks of my life. You'll be chuffed when you get it though.

I'm not to fussed about the delivery date at the moment. 10-12 weeks pushes it to an 11 plate. Also it gives me time to save a bit for the deposit, or pay for a conservatory, or a new roof or the imminent wedding, the list goes on!

I think the 4hr train ride to Newcastle will be the worse!

No spare wheel? It is only £50, and a pain to sort out after.

Sorry to be a pain as new to this form, but looking to get a new Octavia vrs D as a company car to replace my Leon Cupra Mk2, as im sick of the load cabin noise and tax bill and want a change.

Just a few quick questions, is DSG worth having on a diesel ?

Is maxidot the same as a MFD on a Leon ?

Does the ipod connection show the artist,song etc on the radio display (it doesent on theCupra and sounds rubbish)

Is blutetooth the same set up as on Leon's ?

Any other extras worth having/a must ?

I know I should ask the dealers but I want to be "upto speed" before I meet them.

I have just order my new co car, Black VRS CR similar spec but with Sunroof. Have been told Sept so 11 plate but that the spare I ordered is no longer available from Skoda? anyone else heard this. I went for the full size spare wheel but they don't do this on the VRS anymore? how strange....

If it is Sept it will be a 60 plate not 11. Yep, you can no longer order a full sized spare with the VRS, only a space saving one.
