Servicing Date

Featured Replies

Just got stiffed without really thinking about it!

When I first purchased the car, I dropped it into my local skoda Approved Service Centre to have the servicing changed from Variable to Fixed.

9 months / 9400 miles later it tells me "Service" so without thinking, I drop it in for an "A" service - just an oil change so not end of the world and when I picked it up, the service indicator says "Serice in 9100 miles or 366 days". Er, I think not! Since when has an Octy 170CR on Fixed Servicing had a schedule of 9K / 1yr?

Any ideas as my garage needs to resolve this?

I thought fixed service was 12months or 15000kms, whichever came first...

15000km is about 9300 miles

Thought fixed was 1yr/10K

Variable is 2yr/20K though mine reckons it'll be 18/19 (same as my Elegance PD that I had)

I've just had mine service and initially it was reading 370 days/9400 miles as they set it to fixed service (in error). I think this is correct for fixed as 15000KM is roughly 9400 miles, so I would question why you appear to have lost 300 miles and a few days.

I'm still interested to hear from anyone who is on variable and is able to read these figures off the dash. Since mine was set to variable it just shows three dashed. Skoda UK sent me an e-mail today stating "I confirm that I have spoken with Technical Support, who have confirmed that your dealer is correct, in that you should not be able to see the miles and days left on a variable service regime, on the dashboard"

My new Scout TDI set for variable servicing is now just over 2k miles & showing service due in 9100mls / 690 days. I was expecting more miles before service so going to query it with the dealer.

Variable means Variable !

The vehicle computer, on vehicles with variable servicing interval setting, gets various sensor inputs from the engine and from the vehicle itself . The computer then processes these inputs according to a program algorithm and sets the interval. This happens for each car journey so that the interval is constantly being updated by each trip. In extreme cases the interval may be considerably less than 10,000 miles for low annual mileage cars driven over lots of short trips or considerably more than 25,000 miles for high annual mileage cars driven mainly on the motorway. The actual duration shown may be less than 12 months.

Thanks for the explanation VWCabriolet1971; won't need to bother the dealer now. It was last used on a short local journey so it will be interesting to see how a few hundred miles on the motorway tomorrow affects the reading.

You're missing the point guys - The car was reset for FIXED servicing and its only done 9K before asking for its 1st service. It now say another 9K till the next one. This is cobblers - no modern vehicle is less than 12k service intervals otherwise its WAY too expensive to run!

i plumped for fixed because variable servicing was specifically designed for fleet managers to reduce the servicing costs. You must remember they shoot their vehicles at 60K ish / 3yrs so the adverse effects of long service intervals never becomes apparent. As I own my vehicle I want to have it serviced every year but NOT every 9K which is just silly!

Erm, fixed servicing is 15'000 km, which is about 9'000 miles. It is half of variables maximum, which is 18,500 miles approximately.

I think it's right.

If you want it serviced every year for an oil change you can either stay on variable and ask them to do an oil change every 1 year or invest in an oil filter socket and a pella pump and DIY it every year while on variable.

Thanks Cheecy - what a load of *******s though - 9K is ****e! There should be a 12K fixed option like every other car on the road. Crap Crap Crap GOD I'm ****ed off - this bloody car is driving me nuts - if it isn't squaking door seals its 9K crappy servicing or water in the boot or or o9r ARGH!!!!!

Is this your first service? I will be interested to see if the countdown figures ever come back - I'm hoping mine will soon.

Based on Skaut's earlier post:

"My new Scout TDI set for variable servicing is now just over 2k miles & showing service due in 9100mls / 690 days. I was expecting more miles before service so going to query it with the dealer"

it proves I'm not making up the fact that I could see the countdown before the service. The 690 days shows it must be set to variable and is showing the counter, which shows that Skoda Customer Care's response to me:

"I confirm that I have spoken with Technical Support, who have confirmed that your dealer is correct, in that you should not be able to see the miles and days left on a variable service regime, on the dashboard"

is absolute rubbish.

I feel for you, as I have often felt the same. Just out of interest how old is the car. Mine is June 2008 and had problems with noisy door seals which was an absolute nightmare to get anything done about. I'm sure I asked someone else who had the problem and theirs was the same month as mine so I strongly suspected a faulty batch of seals.
