URGENT Petrol in Diesel

Featured Replies

Think the daughter put £10 worth of petrol in my diesel octy 130 bhp last night sounds a bit lumby , driven 5 miles , whats best to do next , top up with diesel or get it lifted to a garage . tahnks

think....... might just be bad Diesel?

Got breakdown? Ring em! ;)

£10= +/- 8 litres or so. From previous posts on this forum I would advise to keep it brimmed with diesel for the next week or so and should be ok.

As i understand it things are much worse when filling a petrol car with diesel.

just keep filling her up with diesel and you should get away with it - DO NOT drive any further than to the local petrol station until you have completely filled with diesel though or you could be talking new fuel pump

Or Buy a couple of jerry cans and brim the car that way as a failsafe.

Agreed; also try and keep the engine under 2_000rpm until you've got it filled at least once.

Just keep it topped up with diesel for the next few hundred miles and it will be fine

Agreed as above

But you can make the daughter sweat a bit :rofl:

I put a full tank of Petrol in a Diesel Citroen, tore out of the garage onto the motorway & its started loosing power after a couple of miles, didnt twig what I had done & kept it floored until it stopped, panicked but got away with it

I disagree. My wife filled my PD130 with £30 of petrol then drove it till it stopped, earlier this year. It needed a new fuel filter, drain and flush. Fuel pump was fine.

If it still drives after 5 miles then I would think you've got away with it, but, as the others have said, keep it FULL of good quality diesel for a while.

Filler her with derv and if you can pop a double dose of the millers fuel addative in there (power sport 4 or whatever it's called now).

Keep the tank fairly full for a while by topping it up and then when you've added a good number of litres add another dose of millers and then run the tank down fairly low.

Once it's near to empty get the fuel filter changed and fill the car up with decent diesel.

That's more of an issue for the CR engines as the PD uses oil not fuel to lubricate the fuel pumps.

One of our lease Diesel Focuses at work was for ever getting filled back up with petrol, and it never did it any harm (1.8TD). Just keep topping the tank up and it should be ok :-)
