Speaker sizes?

Featured Replies

Does anybody know the sizes for the door speaker in the front and speakers in the rear shelf. Also any advice on decent manufacture's would be good. I was thinking anything from sony to alpine, kenwood etc. All similarly priced. I've heared people have trouble with aftermarket radio's in fabia's? Something to do with the antenna? Is that right?

P.s - I didnt wnat to put this post in the ICE section because its Fabia specific.:smirk:

Yeah I heared in one of older posts that you have to plug a booster in the back of the aftermarket HU because the standard ones already got em built in. Its gona be essential in my case because I'm getting DAB HU. Alot of people have been havin problems with they're radio reception. I've tried searching for hours to look for an answer. Can anybody please help us?

I need to know about these boosters too. The signal with my JVC headunit is poor.

Hello all,

I fitted a JVC HU in my car last night, it's true, you do need an aerial amplifier. I paid a tenner for mine from a local car audio place.

Also you will need a cover for the hole that is left by the smaller HU. This was £3 from Skoda

You may also, depending on the unit, need to buy an adapter so that you can plug it straight in. Again this was a tenner from the local audio place. Just show em what you've got and they'll know what you need.

As for fitting, I had to solder the power lead from the aerial amp to the ignition switched 12v to the stereo. Then you just connect the connectors and it should be golden.

I have however had a few teething problems since then. Whenever the stereo is on, the dash lights up as though the sidelights were on (they're not) - I don't know if this is normal or if it is because of the way the stereo is wired up. Also my glow plug light started flashing today, and the brake lights are all fine. I don't think fitting the stereo caused this but I wouldn't say its impossible, after all, I'm no electrician.

Oh man this sounds as if i should just buy the standard cd player instead?

in the front they are 6.5inch, in the rear of the estate at least I think they are 6x4, if not you can make yourself a baffle to fit some 4"'s.

You need speakers shallow enough.

I say just get it done man, solving the problems, if they even do occur, is half the fun.

I've already sorted enough problems on it lol! I think I prefer the easy life. Does anybody know if that Pure DAB in car receiver is any good?

Well the pure DAB thing is rubbish, I suppose I better be up for a challenge when the time comes.

Front doors are 5" (Or possibly 5.25") rears are 4"

You'll get away with 6.5" in the front doors but you'll need to space them out to at least 36-42mm dependant on speaker depth!

I've just fitted a set of These! These need spaced out to about 42mm as they're a deep speaker

And make your own spacers out of MDF. I got a set of adaptors from audioleads and there is no way in the world that they'd ever fit!

As for the rears, Well it's all a matter of choice 6x9's or just a sub!

Got to admit try disconnecting the rear tweets! This moves the the sound stage forward, and only takes a minute to do makes a huge difference!

you don't need an adapter to fit a standard ISO stereo, you just need to swap the yellow and red wires over on the loom that comes with the stereo. All half decent brands come with bullet connectors on these so you can swap them easily. Its just ignition switch and constant live cables.

To fit an aftermarket you'll need:

I fitted mine in the skoda car park in about 2 minutes :p

No problems with anything else, radio is fine etc.

The speakers in the doors are riveted in, so you'll either need to rivet the new ones in or replace with nuts. tbh, once the stock stereo is out and you have a decent one in the sound quality is much better anyway, depends what you're after

Whilst we'r on the topic of Speakers could I please ask..

Has anybody noticed with an aftermarket CD Player when the igntion off and pull the key out the CD starts from track 1, rather than playing the track you were listening to before turning the engine off it also resets the settings on the cd player i.e bass, speaker settings etc can be quite annoying having to do it everytime..

The CD Player is Pioneer it wouldnt reset in the other cars I have had before, so would it be down to the Fabias electronics cutting out all power so it dosent have the memory to keep the settings in store? is there a way around this..

Thanks

As my post above says, did you switch the red and yellow cables over? They're the ignition live and constant live... sounds like they're the wrong way around on yours hence it losing the constant power for settings when the keys removed from the ignition.

Sorry? Could you explain that further please..? didnt realise the rear of the fabia has tweets..

Would having the wires switched on as live constantly drain the battery? If so I wont bother doing it.

Thanks

No, it provides a 12v feed, but the stereo won't use that. The standard stereo does this, as does pretty much every other stereo... its the only way they can keep the settings without storing them in non volatile memory. I've had mine like this for about 18 months, and had to do the same on my astra.

You can buy a wiring loom as mentioned earlier which literally does the same thing, but costs £10 odd... right rip off. Check the manual for your stereo, there should be a section at the back that mentions this maybe in troubleshooting (at least my pioneers and alpines have in the past)

Infact, having them the way you currently have could have issues, as depending on the stereo you could leave the stereo on running even with the key out the ignition. My mates did this, which ran his battery down just by being on standby all night

Tweets are in the rear doors just behind your ears in front of the rear door pulls!

Go into your boot, Pull back the carpeting to expose the rear speakers.

You'll notice two (2) connectors on each speaker.

For the O/S disconnect the rearmost connector.

For the N/S disconnect the forward connector.

Now play about with your settings! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Just fitted rear 6x9s lying around and whilst I was at it I swapped the yellow to red now it dosent have to be set again keeps the memory..

Thanks for your input on this
