Rear Calliper

Featured Replies

I posted this in wanted thread but in case people don't check here it is:

after getting two new tyres yesterday the tyre place kindly let me know that my drivers side rear calliper is knackered. Does anyone have a good one of these for sale?? Or know somewhere I can get one cheaper than 140 quid?(local VAG specialist) Fabia VRS 53 reg

Thanks

Try Euro Car Parts or GSF.

I think the only place you'll get one ready painted is a dealer :( , but if you can lay your hands on some Hammerite smooth green paint then a caliper from a MK4 Golf will do the trick. IIRC you need a 2001 onwards so the handbrake connection is the same.

What exactly do they say is knackered with it ?

It might just need a rebuild or freeing off in some way.

Hi blaw

As others have said, what is exactly wrong with it !

Does the car hold on a hill ? if so there cannot be too much wrong, poss slightly sized.

But if you were having tyres fitted what was the guy doing looking at the rear brakes any way and

What do they know about brakes, they will tell you anything to get business (poss not in your case)

I agree with Radiotwo, take any info/advice from tyre fitters with a pinch of salt, in my experience most of them

even struggle to fit a tyre to a rim and balance them correctly, and are not experienced skilled mechanics. They

just have an agenda to try and get more money from you. I would have thought its unlikely that your caliper is totally

knackered, and could not be adjusted/refurbed in some way?

Lewwy

I'd tend to agree with RADIOTWO and Lewwy a bit, but you do tend to find that tyre places also replace exhausts shockers and brakes - so it could be said that it was in both parties interest to check out FOC other areas while they were in there.

In all honesty, I'd reckon that they noticed that the wheel was not free to turn when they had it up on the lift and took a rear wheels off - it could be that you might afterwards claim that your car had a brake problem - so they felt obliged to inform you about what they discovered.

After saying all that, why not use "search" and see what others, including me have said and done to take care of what is usually the probelm.

Oh, and for some reason, it does tend to be the O/S that mainly fails first.
