Urgent Help Needed!

I've gone and done something stupid...

Had the seats out today to clean the carpets. While putting the front driver's seat back I have managed to shear the inside of one of the rear bolts cos it got stuck, when I tried to remove it I sheared it anti-clockwise too. Now the seat only goes back a few inches, and being 6'4" this is nowhere near far enough back.

I cant get the bolt out. I have tried long nose pliers but cant get any grip on it, and out of desperation I even tried hitting it with a hammer, funnily enough this did nothing lol.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

On a positive note the carpets, headliner and seats are spotless and smell very nice, just a shame I cant get into the car to drive it :giggle:

you're going to need to get it out without damaging the thread in the floor and put a new bolt in.

you will need that final bolt as it's holding you seat in place in the event of an accident the results of not having it could be most unpleasant.

You could drill a small hole in the bolt and hammer a slightly larger torx bit into it and use a socket on the torx bit to wind it out.

What about using a Dremmel too cut off a few mm from the top of the bolt head, giving enough clearance for the seat to go back? The other 3 bolts are fine. Typcally I dont have a larger torx bit, but I suppose I can get one, but tbh I dont have much confidence inmyself being able to do what you say.

Use a dremmel cut off to cut a slot across the top of the bolt, like a (big sturdy) flat blade screwdriver would use ?

As you say mate, cut a slot in the bolt top, and use a screwdriver to extract it.

Don't you just love all the wee long timer mechanic tricks :giggle: i'm always on the lookout for more

Double nut's another trick that might work here, but it doesn't sound like there's enough bolt poking out to do it -- thread on a nut to the top of the stud, and wind it down far enough to allow you to then thread on another one and nip it up to the first one. Use a spanner on the bottom nut to extract the broken bolt / stud.
