Fabia 2 09 1.4TDI AirCon?

Featured Replies

Hi,

What do other users make of the Aircon in the Fabia? I find it makes loits of hissing noises!!! When pulling up to a junction and pulling off and it goes colder but with the temp outside at 30 degrees today the old aircon was struggling a bit! It was blowing cool but not fridge cold. My wifes Roomster 1.9 tdi is much better aircon? I also used to have a Volvo v50 and Golf mk6 tdi and both of those had good aircon.

I have also never had a hissing aircon before? Is this normal or have I got a leak or somthing? May be its just a smaller car so has a small compressor :S

Cheers

I've never heard hissing in any cars with air con i've been in.

When I got into my car after my car had been sitting in the blaring sun all afternoon, the air con was blowing the warm air out (i think this is the hot air that's in the system) then after a few seconds it blows cold air.

Hmm I have never heard hissing either in any other car but thhis one does make hissing sounds. Seems strange to me.

do you think it's the vents? i know when blowing in the head vents is louder than the feet or windscreen vents

Could be but it does sound like a compressor whoosh.

If your aircond really cold. Mine JUST keeps the cabin confortable when on its coldest setting.

i thought there's only one setting on or off.

on a hot day i normally have it half way between the head and feet vents, have it on full blast for a few minutes then turn it down to maintain the coolness. I'm also thinking of rear sun shades to help when parking in the sun.

I find the aircon OK in the Fabia, Ive had better as it does struggle a bit in extreme heat and boy does it sap the power from the 1.2 HTP. I rarely use it tbh.

No bother with mine I have to turn it down after a while on the hottest day as after a while it gets to cold , you might need to get it re-gassed if its struggling to keep the car cool

Oh it does keep it cool, but Ive had better ones... my old Micra from 2003 got positively freezing if you wanted.

You hit the nail on the head when you said your "OLD" car... Modern air-con uses an eco friendlier gass and is compramised somewhat by offering a poorer cooling effect.

This will be the norm now, until the tech-heads figure out a more efficient way to cool cars again.

i have the same engine but i don't notice any difference with performance with the air con on or off.

Hi,

I took it to the dealer today who were very helpful. When you pull up at a junction and then move away it gives a loud hissing noice. The mechanic agreed that the aircon was not as cold as it should be and beleives the gas may be low. If its a leak it will be covered under warrantee, if not then £60 plus vat.

I have asked them to put in a good will request from Skoda as I beleive that as the car was new March 2009 and covered 10k it should not need recharging this early.

We will see what they say.

Cheers

My '58 Fabia has the climate control and the display goes down to 18'c in half degree steps then LO. The Fabia system is far better than my old '06 Peugeot but that did have a glass roof which just heated up the cold air almost instantly. The Fabia has a solid roof and no sunroof either and whilst its not frosty cold its doing a good job at keeping the car comfortable.

i have the same engine but i don't notice any difference with performance with the air con on or off.

Really? Mine kills the performance, not so much at high revs but certainly low down the torque is just about gone. Try it at say 40mph in 5th without aircon then the same with it on. In mine its like someone has applied the brakes a little! Every car Ive owned has been affected the same. On Sunday I was loaded right up with luggage and the wife and the car was fine with AC off but not great with it on, until we got on the motorway and it performed fine.

At 40mph i normally drive in 5th gear (depending on gradient of the road). I'll try this tomorrow and see..

Don't affect mine at all but with 105 bhp on tap with the 1.9tdi it shouldn't and its also climate control which go's very cold when switched to lowest setting

i do notice the needle rev slightly higher when the air con is on

... but i don't notice any difference with performance with the air con on or off.

I notice the difference on my 115bhp 2.0i Mk1. If you find a long flat stretch of road and get the instantaneous consumption up on the dashboard, you can see the difference when you switch aircon on/off. If you have cruise control, it makes it clearer still. If I have to give the car a bit of welly, I sometimes switch the aircon off.

I tried 40mph in fitfth gear today with air con on, put my foot down, slowed down to 40mph, then switched it off, and put my foot down but i still couldn't feel any difference.

i'm wondering if the reduction in power is to compensate for increased fuel consumption if there wasn't a reduction in power.

having said that, i have noticed the first bar on the fuel gauge going down quicker than when i have air con off. I can normally do 65-70 miles before the first bar disappears, but now with air con on most days, it drops before i can do 60 miles on the clock.

Hi,

Just an update. Skoda turned around and said nope its fair wear and tear!!!

I am not happy as I don't believe a 14 month old car should have lost so much gas.

I took it to an indipendant garage who tested and refilled the car and said there was very little gas in it. They Vacume pressure tested it with a Hella Aircon machine and it did not show up any leaks and they put dye in it. So this cost me £60 but I have Ice cold aircon now just as good as any other car I have been in.

If over the next few months it goes down again I will of course go straight back to Skoda as this must mean a leak!

I am very disappointed that Skoda did not help. I have rung through customer services and put in complain on Wednesday but as I am a Driving instructor I needed the car fixed asap!

Very annoying.

Cheers

you've done the right thing.

whatever the problem was Skoda should have sorted it as it's under warranty. Wear and tear is no excuse on a 14 month old car.

Had a similar issue with our08 Fabia.

After about 12 months the aircon started to make a hissing noise when switched on. After a month or so, the aircon was completely gone and not blowing cool air anymore.

Took in to the dealers, and there was no gas left at all. It was topped it up and added dye. After two weeks went back for a check a no leaks could be found.

After another three months, the story repeated itself. Again, no gas left in the system at all. No leaks found and topped up again, an so far the aircon is still doing it's job (for about 8 months)

No leaks were found, so a mystery were all the gas went...

Did the dealer do it FOC?

In my case, yes everything was done under warranty

May it was because my car is 15 months old or so (registered 31st March 09) and I bought it second hand in Jan 2010 (From a different Skoda dealer)

Oh well never mind.

Cheers
