Cheers Carl - but I have now convinced myself that I NEED a DSLR, and quick....

....only problem is there's so many to choose from :S

Had a bit of a play with Nick's Canon 450D at GTi International and quite liked it, so may go for that with the 18-55 IS and 55-250 IS lenses................unless anyone out there can suggest something better

I'm certainly not bothered about having an SLR that does video

Yes I love them Bryan.

The old girl is only just back in the air but will also be appearing at Goodwood tomorrow as well.

Not my video but who cares its on Youtube.

This takes me back. I spent most of my childhood in Hykeham, then a village, now a full-blown town in it's own right I think, about 4 miles from Waddington. The Vulcan was a regular sight overhead. I thought there were no flying examples left, so it's great to see one in the air again. I'm guessing this is a recently completed restoration?

Hi Brimma

Can certainly vouch for Canon kit. I have a 350D, and a 20D, with a number of lenses mostly L series.

The IS function is very useful, reducing blurred photos at lower shutter speeds.

Spent 2 weeks at waddington Air Base in the 70`s in the air cadets, we were billeted in tents 25 feet away from runway, health and safety wouldn't allow it today ! :giggle: Seeing them so near was amazing! English electric lighting in a hanger, and harriers taking off at all hours!

great pics - ive yet to go to my first air show..

Funny that - I lived in North Hykeham myself as well - went to NK (left in 1981) - and yes, the Vulcans were a welcome sight.

This is the only flying example, and it was restored a few years ago, at great expense (still ongoing). It flew at Waddington two years ago, but didn't fly last year due to not getting it's safety certificate through in time :S

Thought the same was going to happen this year, but they just managed it

Talk about a small world. I too went to NK, leaving in 1979. 14 years commissioned service in the RAF, then off to about as far away as you can get from North Hykeham. You've got to love today's communications technology.

I thought the name rang a bell - I was probably in the same year as your sister (if I've got the right person)

Yep, spot on. My sister (Rachel) still lives in Lincoln, married with 2 late teen girls, runs her own floristry business (the Arbour on Steep Hill.

good pics.

I've seen some others from this show on a friend's flickr pages - was there a red arrow missing?

I think so. The Red Arrows at Goodwood were a man (woman) down. ;)

One of the pilots was apparently down with food poisoning, and was unable to fly :S

  • 2 weeks later...

For info - often see a mention in local store of a Vulcan doing taxi runs .(It's somewhere in the midlands , from memory somewhere slightly south of Birmingham , though do remember there's one at Long Marston ans another at a collection close to Coventry airport ( but this one only just got down ,and I seem to remember it's not mobile) .

Probably the one at Wellesbourne Mountford ;)

There's a vulcan at East Mids aeropark too if my memory serves me correctly ;)

Bit late linking to my pics of waddington, but didnt realise there was a photo thread on here.

Here they are on my Flickr

the vulcan takes me back to my youth had a picture of one on my bedroom wall cool pics by the way:thumbup:
