Battery full buy car not starting - why?

Featured Replies

My skoda fabia is not starting for a couple of days now. i park it on a slope and jump start it. I have had a look and the battery has the green light and i hooked it up to charge it but it was giving 100% charged. I have cleaned the connections and no better. I have tried jumpleads but no better. I reckon it may be the alternator or the starter. I there any way of knowing which of these it is or could it be something else? Thanks. Is there any way of knowingif it is one or the other of the alternator or the starter.....

Try putting a multimeter across each component.

ok so i put the volt meter onto the battery postive point on the starter motor and it seems ok.. so that would indicate its the starter motor?

Stupid question, is it cranking over/trying to start, or just doing nothing?

whats the voltage on the battery? should be around 12v, whats the voltage under starting? should drop voltage to maybe 9v but much lower and it indicates your battery isnt holding charge under load, whats the voltage when running? around 14v is normal if its not then the alternator isnt charging the battery and the battery is flat. my money is on the battery.

Starter motor small wire to solenoid broken at starter motor plug. Very common.
