Briskoda and Google

Featured Replies

Haven't done this for a while but today put in 'skoda+forum' in Google and we're now on page 1!

Probably extremely old news to a lot of you but I'm still impressed!

There is a beta version of a new front end for google that suggests results as you type:

http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

(briskoda has 29' date='200 results!!! :D)[/quote']

That's pretty nifty!

sweet!!! gotta be using that instead now :)

Yup October I spent all month tweaking the site. The search engine lottery is mad...

In October we were number one on that exact phrase in a few search engines, msn(20% of search market) for example, but 180th in google. A few tweaks later and google brought us to 60th, a few more and page one, but msn drops off.

The lottery continues and it should improve with some new strategies in the new year ;)

Now a search for 'skoda forum' is top of the pile! :D

Best way to get up in the rankings is just be a popular site. The search engines will follow. MSN Bot is hammering my sites daily. Google about once every couple of days.

The static URL writing definitely helps the search engine side of things. Testing out a few tricks myself but this site appears to be doing pretty well ;)

Only optimised for skoda forum...will be targetting others soon :)

Just wish my dmoz links would bite :(

Was top of msn aswell a while back, there seems to be a slight difference, every rank up in google I dropped in msn and vice versa. Subsquently found subtle differences in there approaches and penatlys for attempting to trick them...will have to see how the new msn engine does in terms of user popularity.

More tricks to come :) When I get the time...for now a quick can of ale :)

That's pretty cool!

Usually I just use the Google toolbar but that looks like it might be worth a go instead.

:)

DMOZ will eventually help the rankings apparently - that said I've never bothered, just let the web do it's business :D

Now I'm currious. What kind of tweaking can you do to improve your rating on Google (or elsewhere for that matter)?!

P

You can do a lot of things - put in meta tags, make html pages available rather than php pages (they are done by an apache rewrite rule, usually).

Avoid the use of session-guids on URLs

Meta keywords relevant to the post

Clean home pages which direct to a good article/guide containing more keywords

Incoming links from other sites which are related.

Visitors :D

I'm not suprised Briskoda is on page 1. How do you think I found this place?
