Insurance Renewal time

Featured Replies

Swiftcover have sent me their renewal.

Fully comp

5 years or more NCB

one driver

parked off road

no convictions

£379.30! :'( :'(

I did notice the Iggy Pop fee attached to it.

So far, it looks like Aviva will be getting my money. £282 and the same cover.

I'd be over the moon with a renewal quote of £379.30

This years was nearly £700 with a nice increase when I moved...

i used aviva also as they were a lot cheaper than anyone else

Skoda Insurance were one of the most expensive.

This is a link to a page on the StrikeEngine website which lists companies claiming to specialise in performance car insurance, I hope it helps someone

I've business use (very occasional) on mine which pushes it up to £400 or so with AXA.Competitive with other prices on line.

Swiftcover would do it for ~£220 without that cover.

Skoda Insurance were one of the most expensive.

We have just gone to Skoda Ins for about £390, after our renewal quote of £650 from Hastings :giggle:

Whichever company you choose buy your insurance via a cashback site like Quidco or Topcashback (Google 'em). I'd be surprised if you couldn't get at least £60 cashback with the same insurers.

The technique is to do a price comparison search (check out www.MoneySavingExpert.com) and make a shortlist of perhaps half a dozen likely candidates. Then ..... and this is important ... DELETE COOKIES from Internet Properties (you'll find out how to do it I'm sure!).

Now log in to the cashback site and register (FREE!!), search among "Insurance/Finance" or whatever the particular site calls it and look for the insurance companies on your shortlist - most, if not all, will be there. See who gives the best cashback/deal and click the link. This will take you back to the Insurance Company's own website BUT ..... because you logged in via the cashback site, you'll get the dosh!

Simples!

My basic advice is to never, ever just renew without doing a bit of homework'

Dave (Fully comp with AA - Net cost just over £100 in 2009 - coming up for renewal soon - guess how I'll be doing it!))

(It's taken longer to type it than to do it!)

For me:-

Aviva £331:00p

Hastings £222:63p

It looks like Hastings for me.

Try £880 9years NCB fully protected :'( well it is a taxi

Do two or three comparison websites. I found LV good this year (also for 1.8TSi) and E Sure can be good, as can More Than sometimes.

One secret seems to be to change companies every single year. I've never had a renewal quote that beats the new business quotes.

Also, never, ever, ever renew with your current provider.

I have been with Aviva for the past three years.

They do use comparison sites, and every year, they come up cheaper on the comparison site than they do with the renewal. It is usually about £150.00 cheaper.

When I ask why they say 'becuase you get a sign on bonus wiht us the first time round'. So,I keep going back as a new customer.

good luck.

I've just swapped my vRS petrol to a diesel which is 2 insurance groups lower, I'm half way through my insurance year and Barclays Insurance has stung me an extra £30 plus £25 ducument fee!!! This has never happened before so I've already told them not to bother to send out a renewal quote as I'll not be using them again.

Still Aviva. Out of idle curiosity, I tried Adrian Flux. The estimate came back at an eye-popping £438. In fact i laughed so hard it hurt.

I am insured with Admiral............for the last two years running one of the Admiral owned companies has come back with the cheapest quote by far (for me and my wife) - usually Elephant or Bell Direct. So when my renewal letter from Admiral pops through the post I give them a call and tell them that I can get the policy cheaper through one of their other owned companies. They call up the quote and match the price with no questions at all. Wouldn't it just be easier if they gave me the lower price on the renewal quote.............but no, that's how they make their money from people to idle to switch. Car insurance.........it's the fun game we have to play every year !

I'll be paying £1500 next month for mine!!!

no, becuase they expect a large number of people to think 'oh, I have got the best deal in my renewal' and therefore they will pay the higher amount without trying.

Its just their way of giving 'great customer service'......

Just renewed my 2010 Elegance with Churchill £170 Fully Comp, me and the wife. (Mind, I am old)

I'm with Admiral too, as we have a 2nd car their multi-quote came in miles cheaper than anyone else. A few helpful hints:

- Saying that the vRS was parked on the road and not in the garage saved me £40...

- Adding my learner wife to the car also reduced the quote...

Not sure about why either of these occured but I didn't question it...

:dull: Interesting, I will be trying that!

Confused.com? I am now. How could either of those reduce the premium???

"Yes mr insurer, I now park the car where it can be vandalised by the local idiots or driven into by mr(s) drunk driver, now can you reduce the premium please? Oh, and I'm going to teach someone to drive in my 170hp Auto, reduce it again will you please...

Thanks you very much mr insurer..."

Might have to try telling my insurers it's parked on the road instead of the drive and see what happens....

Do what I did and play around with the online quotes to see how it's affected...that way at least they don't get wise to it and correct it if it is an error...but you're right, I couldn't believe it when that combination came back £90 cheaper than one with just myself with 6 yrs no claims and garage parked...

I switched my porsche carrera 997 for a FL octavia diesel and kwik-fit insurance wanted an extra 50quid! laughed them off the phone. Got my 250 quid rebate and with another 100 got a yrs insurance for the skoda.

Vrs diesel estate - £257 with AXA including proteced NCB/legal cover etc. One of the few advantages of being an old git!

It is depended on the insurance you have renewing. For better suggestions visit any insurance company.I would suggest you to go for 1st claims.co.uk for the best insurance.
