Driving homes last night down the M6 doing 70mph when i feel my accelerator pedal is not pressing down the whole way and then all of a sudden "Twang" and the pedal comes off! I see the shiny metal pedal flailing about below. i obviously **** myself and put my foot higher up onto the stalk of the pedal, however, it still feels as thought here is a pedal there!???? I am bemused by this and manage until i pull in at the next available space. i look down and find the Aluminium pedals are actaully just rubber grip overs and not proper pedals! Pi**ed off was not the word for me at that moment! If the pedal had gone behind my brake pedal i could have been in seriuos trouble! Anyone else aware of this problem???

Not heard of this before, but think I will check mine later to make sure they are still on properly. Glad you got away with it. Could have been nasty! :eek:

Not good. First I've heard of this happening.

Not had this problem, but I noticed one was laying half off when I got in one day. I then put a little silicone sealant on the pedal and put it back on.

The thing was...my pesky size 11s werent even being as abusive as normal. Just trundling along then it flicked off! Do you think i should contact Skoda direct about this? See if they are aware of the problem?

Certainly worth speaking to your dealer about it.

Definitely contact the dealer as it is potentially dangerous, esp. if it could happen with the most important one of all, the brake pedal (I know no-one likes using it much :rofl: but it can be kinda nice to have :D )

This is an industry standard for "sporty" pedal designs i.e. a pressed aluminium plate that has the plastic or rubber injection moulded into it. On the underside of the pedal the rubber has a lip around its circumference which sits over a backing plate, thus securing the pedal to the arm (but not in your case!)

It should be easy to refit. If it puts your mind at ease, maybe apply a little adhesive onto the steel backing plate (the plate welded to the pedal arm) where the rubber fits over it, however I dont personally think this will make much difference.

However it's certainly something for everyone to be cautious of!

The pedal covers/trims do just push over the pedal, a rubber lip pops over to stop them coming off.

Get quite a few new ones in with them missing, think they get pinched down the docks.

The same pedal covers are used on the octy vRS (obviously), Audi TT ,Phaeton and probably other models too.I'd check other sites to see if this is an issue with them

I think eatsoot04 was just unlucky - this is an industry standard in (aesthetic) pedal plate fixturing. As Daveclar mentioned it is used all over VAG. I believe Mini use the same method although the rubber is actually "rubber-look" plastic. Euck!

Just be glad your not in America. The pedal would have come off, jammed the accelerator to the floor and you would have lost control, hit an overloaded school bus outside a busy bus stop and the car probably would have rolled and then exploded. And then you would have sued the entire Auto industry.... Ok, calm down :o

Not really - in the US you'd just plant your foot on the twice-as-wide-as-normal brake pedal, and provide pressure on it to slow you down... ;)

You also have the foot brake, if all else fails, which combined with sticking the auto-box in neutral would get you to stop in a safe and controlled manner ;)

Ahh I remember the days..... One of my (yankee) mates used to always put his car into neutral whenever he touched the brake pedal. Strange.

Why are Americans clueless when it comes to manual transmission? "Oh I'd love to drive your car, but wait, it's got a stick - I dont drive stick". The worrying thing is when they come on hols over here and jump in a manual in rush-hour traffic after an overnight flight. Scary stuff!

And that's after the crazy trucker spent two days and nights chasing you along mountain roads

this happened on my furby, no major just pused it back on again it just after I picked it up so maybe it wasn't pushed on correctly by the dealer. some 13K miles later and it's still there

Alls well till the little bugger of a pedal springs behind the b*sterding brake pedal and big jonny vrs is heading for a bus load of kids coming home for christmas from band camp. jese louise!
