Hows this sound?

Featured Replies

Car has been in for Warranty work,so far so good!!

Its got to go back to have the roll bar bushes replaced at 8 months/7500 miles :P

Does this sound reasonable?

Apparently it is contributing to the rattle we are experiencing from the F/O/S door-trim/vent area.

In fairness the level of service we have received has been excellent so maybe I ought to take off my Mr Sceptic Hat :o

Never changed a set of ARB bushes on a vRS, first one on me but not impossible.

Appreciate your comments, thought it a tad strange myself!!!

Fab16v had his changed...

and im pretty sure its contributing to a "knocking" noise i have too.

hum i have a rattle around there too !!!

Hmm, the plot thickens - I also have a rattle around that area too.. but mine isn't a VRs, or a 16v. I've 1.9TDi.. hmm, I thought it was just all the crap in my glove box and under my front passenger seat - I'll empty and test whether it still rattles or not. Could it not be something else, Speaker cables moving around in the door? etc.

Regards,

Fab16v had his changed....

I thought he had the links changed?????

Mac please tell more. What was the fault the new bushes were supposed to cure? Like others, I've had a clonking noise from the n/s/f for ages. New McP strut and top mounts have failed to cure it. Can you also be specific on which bits were repalced on your car? Cheers mate.

The car was in for a variety of reasons:-elect window with a mind of its own,

various rattles(front&back),flickering lights............

Rear bumper adjusted to 'cure' rear probs, apparently wear evident in roll bar bushes contributing to rattles/noise from front end.(7500 miles)

Will apparently be in sick bay for at least two days whilst fault is rectified.

(Hows that sound Ross???? )

Booked in 29 Dec,will obviously report back,oh yes,have I told the world?

She has scudded the alloy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting, I also have a rattle around the glove box area which is really driving me mad.........

Thanx Mac. I'd be interested to know which ARB bushes were replaced. Did it include the bushes on the 'dog bone' links between the ARB and the struts?

I've got a 1.48v Fabia with 45K on, and in the last couple of days I've had a significant nocking from the front o/s suspension (specifically when going over bumpy surfaces, didnt really notice on smooth surfaces). I pulled the wheel off tonight to have a quick look, and couldnt see anything obvious other than....

The bar that connects to the shock, and goes straight through to the other side of the car (anti roll bar ?) has a rubber bush, and then a 'plastic' sheath between the metal of the roll bar and the fixings. The plastic sheath seemed to have degraded, and be half hanging off, so I wondered if this is where the noise has come from.

If anyone thinks its worth it I can pop a couple of pics on.

p.s. excuse the lack of mechanical knowledge !

RBW,

Thats a known and common problem on the 18mm ARB found on your car. The 21mm ARB of the Fabia vRS isnt effected by that fault.

Interesting, I also have a rattle around the glove box area which is really driving me mad.........

If it's a vibrating noise (ie plastic on plastic), then it may be the end panel on the passenger side of the dashboard (the bit that's revealed when you open the door). I had a similar problem. Just pop it off, reseat it and give it a good firm slam home, et voila!

Had the same problem on my missus car knocking noise from n/s front area. Mentioned it on 30k service and it was arb bush they replaced.

Ross, without wanting to hi-jack the thread.....

Is this a common fix ? e.g. Do I need to just get the dealer to replace the nylon bushes ? Will they know what I am talking about ?

Cheers.

RBW.
