Throttle connected on a Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Wanted to know in simple terms how the gas pedal is connected to engine.

Have heard 'Fly-by-Wire' but not how it actually operates what??

Open to all.

Diesel engines don't have a throttle as such anyway, but basically the pedal is linked to the ECU, which in turn controls the fuelling provided by the injectors. HTH

Yes it is all done electronically. Fuel is all controlled by the main ECU. Also when you press the brake pedal when driving it cuts the throttle signal, this means you can't 'left foot brake' (both feet on throttle and brake at same time).

This is simular to most modern cars. I have read (in this months EVO) that BMW MiNI One opens the throttle valve to 68% (even when foot is to the floor) and the Cooper opens to 100%. This is the only difference between the One and Cooper's engine.

Coopers don't have a turbo, only the Cooper S does. (or supercharger if it's the older one)

Lower powered engine on the cheap there :giggle:

Or if we are talking about a real mini cooper s it has a 997cc engine. :smirk:

We can fix that for you :)

Can you do this on Fabia's Ben? If so please send me details.

Thanks

I was talking about the basic MINI One and the Cooper.

Quote from Evo (Page 14/15 of Aug 2010 edition)

Step forward BMWs first generation Mini. The only difference between the One and the Cooper was that the One's fly-by-wire throttle is opened 68%. Tweak the ECU so it opens fully and instead of 90 BHP, you get the full 115 BHP. It's a simular story with Mercedes current 280CDI and 320CDI models, and, across brands, the Audi R8 V10 and the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The industry is rife with other examples.

So it's quite likely that the same is true for the 180bhp 1.4TSI and the 150bhp version.

Thanks for all your input, which I deduced will never experience a throttle cable breaking.LOLemoticon-0136-giggle.gif
