Coming Home Lights / Leaving Home Lights

Featured Replies

I did this a while ago, quite easy really.

First things first, remove the light switch. To do this have the switch in the off position, push the switch in and turn it to the right and it will pull out.

Now check the wiring to the switch, if there is a purple wire then it's just a simple job of changing the switch, part No. 1Z0 941 431 A 3X1 (number taken from switch box)

If there is not a purple wire there then you will need 2 repair wires Part No. 000979009 (number taken from invoice).

Connect one wire to the switch connector terminal No.2 IIRC its the only empty connection, connect the other wire to terminal 14 on the electrical system control unit

located under the dash just above the pedals and marked with an E. Trim the two wires to lenght and join them together.

Hope this helps

Chris.

Edit just found the thread linky

That's great, thanks!

I checked the wiring, I couldn't see a completely purple wire, although there was one that looked 50% purple 50% blue? It was getting slightly dark though...

That part number is the auto-light unit part number? How did you get it, did you just ask Skoda/VW?

What was the cost of the auto-light unit?

Thanks,

Richard.

I have access to an auto-light unit via my mum's '55 Jetta, could I test my wiring with this? Should be compatible?

The part number is for the light switch with front and rear fogs. I was lucky and found mine on Ebay, cost me £5, i believe that from a dealer they were about £65.

Try this link Linky the one I have is the third one pictured.

OK...

It's taken me a while (access to VAG COM has been limited), but I have been back through the VAG COM settings under Cent.Elec and can't find anything to do with Personalisation in order to activate the CHL / LHL.

I still can't seem to get them to come on - either via the headlight switch, ignition key, remote fob or anything else I can think of.

I take it this needs the Auto headlights feature to work? Can someone confirm this?

If this is not the case, then can someone assist me?

If it is that I need the auto headlight feature - How easy would this be for me to do? I am pretty intelligent, and can use a multimeter / soldering iron.

Ok...i read somewhere that cornering function will appear in assistant menu.

It's possible that the Corner Lights (or Bend Lights) in the assistant menu may exist and turn On/Off the Xenon ASF steering lights. This seems to depend on the coding of the Xenon module and 09 module. Gti Example

Most of the 2010 and up US vehicles (using the 09 - Cent. Elect / BCM) do not come with a RLS from the factory, so Leaving home cannot be activated without some retrofitting. This would include the RLS, Auto switch and wiring.

However, Coming home can be manually activated by pulling the high beam stalk back briefly (flashing the high beams) after the car has been shut off and before opening the door. See if this works on your car before you install and wire the Auto switch.

FWIW, our predecessor MK5 (2009 and older) did not have the BCM 09 module and you could leave the headlight switch in the on position, this doesn't work on the BCM cars in the US either.

Will give that a try tonight - although I do have CHL and LHL enabled in the Maxidot and set to 10 secs each.. Surely if this was not active I would get an error of VAG COM ?

Well, the menu can be activated on cars without a RLS or Auto switch, but it doesn't actually work properly (automatically) without pulling the High beam stalk. But, no fault codes are stored in the module.

They are now activated in my MY10 fl but still nothing happens despite trying all the above tricks for ch/lh lights

VRs as standard has no light sensor. No sensor = no CH/LH. If you have the sensor, leave it in the Auto position.

However, apparently is it possible to have them activated without sensor, but it's an "all the time" option, so it'll do it in the middle of a sunny day.
