Problem with Cooling fans

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have done a search but cannot find the answer to my fault !

I don't drive the car very often (the wife drives it most of the time) and I got in it tonight and as soon as I started the engine the two fans

cut in and thought the air con had been left on, but when checked it was off,

And find as soon as the IGN is switched on the fans come on, and also noticed that when driving the dash lights were flickering as if a

lot of current was being drawn.

so any one had this problem ?

I don't think my VRS' fans have ever kicked in tbh even after a long period getting a good booting. Sounds like somethings faulty somewhere, possibly thermostat or fan switch?

Does anyone know the location of the fan switch?

I have read on here that the fan control circuit can in deed fail.. but it's un common.

Unfortunately, I seem to recall it's all one part, the fan and the controller.

Thanks Rob

I also have done a search, without any luck myself.

But I would have thought if the controller fails it would fail with the fans off !

But just a little extra info, I turned the Ign on, and the fans started up, but then went off, so I lifted the bonnet

and still the fans off, but banged on the front of the car with the flat of my hand, and they started up, hit it again

and they went off (strange) and when they went on or off there was a click as if it was relay.

Could any one say where the relay is, and has any one got a circuit digram of the fan circuit ?

Many thanks
