Just driven the new Fabia vRS!

Featured Replies

Popped into my local dealer to get some mudflaps for the Octy and there in the showroom was a new Fabia vRS in Blue with a white roof.

Well...They opened the doors and took me out ..I then drove it!!

Bloody Nora...quick!! :o

Very responsive throttle compared to my diesel and felt very quick, with no lag.

Suspension, pretty much the same as our Fabia Sport, but the gearbox is superb...as all DSG's.... but this 7 speed one suits the engine very well indeed

Taking SWMBO down next week for a drive..Probably cant afford one yet, but it definately looks like her next motor!!

Order time....around Xmas!!!! :S

Hi Chris,

I also saw one at the dealer in Kings Heath today, in red.

Lovely wheels (in particular), looks awesome. :)

I'm test driving shortly and will let you know how I get on!

What did you think to the Blue /white roof? I must admit I didn't think they went together, but having seen photos, I think actually it looks pretty cool!

What colour were the wheels, were they white as well?

It looked very very good in blue and white..I prefered it to the green with a black roof

It had standard alloys on BUT white alloys would look amazing!!

Had a quick spin in one today as well. Not being too experienced with automatics, it took a while for my brain to tell my left foot to stop twitching. Soon become pretty natural and fun to drive though. Its a quirky little car. Everything about it...1.4 engine, automatic, supercharger + turbo....it doesn't sound like a clever recipe, but it actually works really well. Not sure which customer base are going to go for it, but its probably one that up until now is pretty untapped! For VAG, it might be a good way to introduce automatic DSG gearboxes to the masses, and make them more acceptable.

Normal driving, I found it pleasant to drive and while there was maybe a bit more body roll than I expected it still felt reassuring on bends.

Acceleration in normal Drive mode is good. Its quick off the mark and when putting the foot down at cruising speed its got plenty of go in it. Unlike the OP though, I experienced a small amount of lag a couple of times. I guess it just depends where the gearbox finds itself when you demand more power.

A quick blast in Sports mode from the standstill found it almost torque steering at each gear change up to 4th. This put a smile on my face :)

....although it has to be said, not the same smile that my remapped Mk I vRS used to, even although on paper the two would have been fairly equal - the torque of the diesel was what made it so special. Totally different cars though, shouldn't really compare them side by side.

Will be interesting to see what the tuners are doing to the new vRS in a few months time though.

Also saw one in the flesh today, looked a lot better than the photos - especially from the front where to me it looks meaner in real life (a bit too cute in the photos - I guess because they're using wide angle lenses which make it look more curvy).

Was not able to take it for a test drive but the dealer took me for a spin around the block. As a passenger - it felt quick and very smooth. The sound from the exhaust was just right (for an old fart like me) not intrusive normally but raspy under acceleration. I thought the ride was firm but so much less crashy than my Mk1 vRS. The interior was nice. Overall I like it, and will probably seriously consider buying one.

As for whether it was quicker than my Mk1 vRS which is remapped. Mmmm... I think the DSG would ensure it was quickest to 60 every time. But it didn't feel significantly quicker outside of that. I think I would really like the DSG though. I can't wait to take one out for a proper drive and see what it's like in various scenarios eg. overtaking, motorway etc.

Didn't like it in red. It's not the duller, metallic red it looks like in the brochure. It's a bright red and doesn't do anything for the car. Some cars look great in solid red - like the three door Mk6 Golf GTi (tornado red) but the vRS doesn't however this is of course subjective.

Saw a white one with black roof at the dealers on Wednesday whilst ordering my Yeti. Looked very much a Q car. (that dates me!!)

So how many of you test drivers tried to dip the clutch when coming to a stop? Lol i work as a valeter and i do it quite regular when driving auto's

White if it was a car i'd consider buying

:hi: Yip!

My left leg kept twitching for the first few miniutes, looking for the clutch that wasn't there. Then every time I come to a stop, it was an horrible feeling that I was about to stall and couldn't do anything about it. This gave me the initial feeling that I couldn't live with an automatic, but I was suprised at how quick and easy it was to get used to.

Another unusual thing was reversing. I was backing up towards a wall, come to a stop with the brake pedal then decided I wanted back a few more inches. When I went back on the accelerator the car seemed to JUMP backwards pretty suddenly. Not sure if this is normal automatic reversing behavour or just my unsympathetic right foot, but the thought of putting a ding in the back end of the dealers only vRS scared me somewhat!

The thing to get used to with autos is being able to "creep" that is to move a little you just ease off the brake. Just imagine the advantages of DSG in the real world - never having to worry about stalling it off the lights... never having to worry about crunching your gears.

When reversing in an auto, DSG or conventional you dont need to use any throttle at all when you want to move a few cms, just gently lift foot off brake and you will roll along at idle speed.

Thats what i do when putting my dads 7 series back onto the driveway if i've had to move it and to put auto's in my bay at work. Thats one thing i do like about auto's is being able to creep without having to worry about stalling it

Got to drive one a few days ago. Very impressed by the DSG and the engine. Really quick car but couldn't find out how good it really was as at the exact moment it decided to hammer down.

went to a skoda dealer today and asked for a test drive and said not allowed, have to wait for launch next week, thats a bit of a downer, but only have to wait a week lol

what dealer let u have a test drive in the new vrs , cos one where i lived said had to wait till next week till launch date.

Neal B who started the 'first night home' thread has had his since 16 July - although he's in N. Ireland and it's possible that the launch date is different there.

But some dealers who actually want to sell cars have been giving test drives, as above. It's at times like this that you find out who really deserves your custom.

when i can afford the cost of a new car i will consider one i love the green with white or black roor and white or black corisponding alloys

My dealer hinted that they would probably get a slapped wrist from Skoda UK if they knew people were test driving it.

They weren't letting Joe Public take it out until the official lauch on the 29th, but in the mean time were allowing ocassional sneak previews for established customers. Saying that...the one I drove had almost 500 miles already!

Yes my local dealer would not entertain a test drive but allowed me to see the car and took me around the block himself.

The trick my father taught me with autos many moons ago was to tuck your left foot under your right leg, as that way it's not in the "just ready to go on the clutch" position and you don't feel quite so inclined to use it.

Of course, he then went on to drive a Citroen CX C-matic, where you change gear with a stick like normal but there's no clutch pedal. It was hilariously crunchy letting him drive my "proper" manual after that. :'(

Looks like we will be ordering one this week!!!

Green with a black roof, black alloys (Wifes choice, not mine) and factory sensors.

Anyone know if the sensors give a diagram on the radio?

Yes, however the diagram isnt as fancy as on a vRS Octavia.

What the maximum REV range, compared to Fabia VRS about 4.5K ???

Its petrol..So no direct comparison

Max bhp @ 6200 rpm = 180

Max torque@ 2000 to 4500 rpm = 250
