Hairline Scratch

Featured Replies

Right - I am now officially p***ed.. I have had the car for a few weeks from brand new and, I have noticed a hairline scratch on the boot. I've never parked close to anything, so no one has had any need to be near it - I even take my young son shopping so I can park in in the ultra wide Parent and Child parking spots.

The scratch is not large - approx 2 inches in legth, but now I know it's there, it's going to bug me senseless.

The paint is Black Magic Pearl Effect and I can clearly see light gray primer underneath..

Any suggestions on how to remove this without it being resprayed?

if you can see primer its too deep, you could try a touch up pen and a very fine brush and try to fill it gradually and put a coat of lacquer on top then polishing over it , or a body shop visit.

although these smart repair people can sometims do a good job.

Smart Repair People? You mean Bodyshop?

It is a small scratch - so I don't want to be duped into a respray of the boot

Smart repair is just a localised air brush job. Usually £60. What you think is primer. may just be laquer scuffing. If you can feel the scratch with your nail, it is deep and will be showing primer. If not, it may well polish out with Menzerna Power Finish on a 4 inch spot pad (Menz orange pad.) Refine finish with Menzerna Final finish on a yellow spot pad.

smart repair is something like "chips away"

i have one of their guys coming out today to look at a deep scratch on my black magic scout

Sounds like you will either need some touch up, wet sanding and buffing action or a 'smart repair', had a Chips Away repair done on an Audi A6 I had for a while, the job was OK but you could tell it had been done, depends how much you want to spend really........... :wonder:

Can you still see 'gray primer underneath' if you run any sort (autoglym super resin polish) over it?

Ive noticed, its common for a scratch to apear white after it has been scratched.

If it is still 'white' after polish, youll need to get it painted. If the polish helps, it could be sanded back and polished...

In brighter daylight - it doesn't appear that bad.. I think it might just be laquer and the gray appearance is the light refracting off the scratch.

I have to clean it this weekend (No idea if anyone else has noticed the Octavia 2010 - the boot lip dips down towards the car and dirt collects in there) so will give her a clean and polish this weekend as I went on a spending spree at Halfords on the BOGOFF offer :)

Will take a before and after pic and post them when the weather picks up.

Id like to believe it wont need painting. You would however, have to find a competant detailer to correct it though.

Bring it to Livingston, I'll buff the blighter out
