Not-so-Big Brake Kit - Porsche Brembo 4-pot callipers on VRS

Featured Replies

They will, I'm sure. Some Boxters have 16"s. Your COs are 7.5J, ET47, so you'll be a mile away from the spokes.

From reading the thread on the GTi with 17" Monza's there looking at 1-2mm clearance, which IMO is not enough

Edit: then again, arent the monza's ET52?

Agree, that's too close for comfort

I thought ET51, Dan but I could be wrong on that one

The Monzas are ET51. I think you'll have loads of clearance on the COs.

Yes if the Monza's are ET51 then ET47 Should give me adequate clearance and should still be able to use the 17" Classix as winter wheels as I wont hammering the brakes come snow time obviously

muckipup,

Brilliant write up. Out of interest do you know if your OEM 16" x 6.5J steel spare wheel clears your new brakes?

I might look at this mod in the future and wondered if a new spare wheel is needed.

I don't think a 6.5J 16" would clear it personally.

There again, if you were unfortunate enough to have a puncture on the front, you could always swap one of your normal 17/18" wheels there, and fit the 16" to the rear. No need to change the spare then  - a bit more hassle were it required, but hardly the end of the world.

As well as offset, you'd need to consider the spoke design of the wheel. I reckon COs would be OK too in that regard

It's a bit like when people fit the 323mm Brembo kit to Fabias. Certain 17" wheels are fine, others aren't - even if they're the same width and offset. 17" Avus-IIs & TT Comps work, 17" BBS RXIIs don't - etc etc :)

If I can get a 345mm R32 kit under my 17" zeniths which are ET54, without spacers, then I'm sure you will be fine Dan

:giggle: I saw this the postfrom Bogwoppit tonight and thought, 'Ohh gawd, with all the planning...I never thought of that one!! :( ). Thankfully, you make a very good point again, Wardy - I didn't think of that either  You may have saved me a 'Krypton factor moment' on the hard shoulder!

I am unsre if the 16" spare would clear them as the spoke design on the 18" Zenith alloys do offer some favourable clearance but I am going to give it a try for my own info. I also have some 3mm spacers that I didn't need with the Zeniths that are now in the boot already...just in case

TBH One of the bonuses about these callipers is that they are not massive BBKs - they just pack a lot of 4-pot punch for their size

Move one of your rear Zeniths to the front, and put the 16" spare on the back

Update: The spare wheel will not fit over these Porsche calipers :(

not an issue, put one of your rear tyres on the front and the spare on the rear. you shouldnt put you spare on the front IMO anyway, unless they are a decent brand of tyre, which they never are

Yeah, I am not too phased by it but it makes for a bit of a 'hard shoulder calamity' with a puncture on the front. Still well-worth it for the braking power of these calipers though.

I stuck some 312mm J-hook discs also supplied by DaveB on the car so watch out for a Part 2 to this thread and a review of those ;)

I have a set of these callipers that I never got around to fitting on my leon mk1 so now tempted to keep them and fit on the octy 2. Is it possible or worth fitting bigger discs (do you have carriers for bigger discs)?

Dave if you read this I had the brake lines from you for the mk1 leon and wondering if these are the same fitment on the octavia vrs mk2 and also if the carriers are aswell. Cheers

Muckipup, thanks for posting about the spare wheel.

I know it's been mentioned that the spare wheel could be fitted to the back axle ect, but that's not that helpful if you have 16" winter wheels.

just put some spacers on. if you have winer tyres on im sure you wouldnt be pushing the boundries of performance

Thank you ;)

£300 is a bit over the top for these ones imho. With a bit of searching for a friendly dealer, they can be had for £395 new for a pair. These don't appear to have the anti-sqeal shims which is a nice bonus if you can get them.

Agreed - these are over-priced. Gutted I missed the ones that were for sale on here the other day for £300 inc adapters. :'(

There may be a bargain to be had here if you are prepared to buy new seals and fit them. At least this guy has been honest about it as I suspect many have bought calipers and found out the hard way.....like me :smirk:

The paint job is really not important - a rub down and couple of coats with Hammerite Smooth Red would sort that out

Hi,

I have the following calipers which I brought formusemon my tuned Skoda Octavia RS. I am based in Mumbai India. I want the mounting brackets for the calipers and also can supply the rotors and pads for the same? If not, where can I buy them from and what would be best for spirited road driving with special emphasis on emergency stops. Will the stock master cylinder and brake lines work with these calipers? Thanks

Sorry the calipers are 996 351 426, 425, 422, 421

Hi buddy and welcome to the forum, unfortunately you will not get a response from Dave, as he isn't member on here. I would recommend joining the mk5golfgti forum and sending him a message on there (you will need 10 posts or more first though).

For further info have a look at the NQSBBK thread.
