short shifter: forge or TTS?

Featured Replies

I bought the TTS shifter but its not fitted yet. Been busy with other things..

Cost £22 quid from the audi main dealer up the road, so its hardly going to break the bank.

My wife drives the car so i wanted something that felt OE. I plant to get it on the car in the next few weeks but its not really a priority.

Done this mod - good value for money.

Its easy to fit if you are DIY capable.

I have some instructions & diagrams.

PM me if required.

Having had both the Neuspeed and Audi TT shifters I would suggest that £22 for the Audi TT one is excellent value. It gives an slightly short throw than the vRS OE one, but retains the OE 'feel'. The Neuspeed (and perhaps Forge) shifter is more extreme and an 'acquired taste'.

I thought id just add to this thread

Ive had Forge Short Shifter (on shortest setting) + Forge Side Shifter (Also on shortest setting) Fitted on My MK2 Leon FR TDI now for around 4 months

Straight away i noticed how much better it was than Standard  and IMHO it feels now how the car should feel from standard

In Conclusion the Short shifter is a piece of kit every MK5 Golf Platformed car should have fitted , The Side shifter however is really personal preference

As said above aswell there are two different kits for the Side Shifter, Mine was the latter plastic kit

Thanks Andrew - always good to have more information.

I'm very happy with the way mine feels now with the TTS shifter - I've got no plans to add anything to reduce the side to side travel as this feels fine to me.

TBH The side to side shiftter doesnt make it that much shorter

Just wondering - is there a shorter shifter available in a VW? Just that there's a VW dealer on the doorstep, so I can just order and walk in...

Rocco R maybe? Golf R? Anyone got any info?

Cheers,

Steve

Nope but Awesome GTI are on your doorstep

They stock the Forge and Compbrake one

Haha, yes well aware of that thanks ;)

Just wondered about the VW angle....

What about TPS, is there one near to you? If not, just take the part number in and ask the VW dealer to order against it. I've done that with our Skoda dealer and they've ordered me Audi & VW stuff, just with the understanding that it's my responsibility to make sure I'd got the correct part number!

Thanks for this thread. The one thing I don't like about the VRS is the shift and as swmbo owns an S3 and I love the shift on that so it looks like I've found and answer to the problem.

Now I just need to go and find out whether I can get the parts here at a reasonable price or whether the Audi Australia "gouge the customer at every chance" pricing will mean importing one.

I've just removed the airbox from my 2010 1.8 TSI and discovered that is has got an MQ250 gearbox and the short shifter doesn't fit - it's the Audi TTS one, part number 8J0 711 046-B

I now have two questions

1. Does anyone know if there is a short shifter available for this gearbox and if so, what the part number is?

2. Does anyone in the local area (Leeds) want to buy a short shifter for their VRS for £25.20, which is what I paid for it?

According to the german board:

MQ250.........8J0 711 046 A

Thanks for the quick response! Have you got a link to the German board please?

Have the gearboxes changed over the years as I fitted the 8J0 711 046-B very satisfactorily to my '07 vRS TDI?

AFAIK they changed the part number to 8J0711051B, but the shifter itself is the same as the older part number.

I don't know, I am guessing that the MQ350 can handle more torque than the MQ250, but I am only guessing. The lever looks similar, but different. I have got a photo but can't upload it, I guess I need to pay my subs to do this.
