Garlic Bread?

Which cats, 200 CPI I assume. Any lower and the CEL will come on. If you do want the 100 CPI I'm sure Disco could sort you out with a fix :D

Intake kit? Is that what I think it is, namely an induction kit. If so I assume you are doing it just for noise as they only give a max of 4 bhp.

If you are going shopping, could you get some pizza and beer as well?

I assume 200 cpi but i dont really understand cats?

still hankering after none at all - are we talking f.a bhp or loads. the graph on millteks website for the a3 is pretty bloody impressive?

Looks about right to me :D

so tavia, what power do you think i would have with the bits on the list? before chip tuning/ big turbo?

Very rough guess:

210-215 bhp

310nm of torque

Money wasted on an RS IMHO, yet incredibly well spend on a 4x4!

Oh please, not again... :(

The gods ave spoken............and messed wif me post. ;)

If you're still hankering after no cats, we start developing a decat system tomorrow, and will have the CEL fixes within a fortnight.

Oh, I wouldn't know, Des.

A 230hp RS would have the same torque as a well-tuned 350hp RS, but the torque would come in much higher up the rev range - and remain up until 7000rpm. Having that torque at 7000rpm gives it the high hp number. Wheel torque will be about the same.

(It's where Honda gets it huge power-per-litre from - reasonable torque delivered up until an amazing, and reliable, 9000rpm. Without a turbo.)

It would turn into a different car, though. Getting the full load would mean revving it till no tomorrow. No diesel-like behaviour as in the standard RS! Low-range torque might even be a bit disappointing, and I'd expect any results to show themselves only above 80 mph. In other words, it would be a perfect Autobahnstormer.

I only wonder what you would do handling-wise. Would you give it a locked front diff (and give it a bloody scary experience through corners) or would you sort the car through careful suspension set-up changes? For instance, is it possible to play with the camber on an RS?

I would rather 350bhp through 4 wheels than 2 front ones.

After experencing 280bhp in a 4x4 and 180 in the RS i cant see how you could get the power to the floor without

1 embarassing yourself

2 buying new tyres every other week.

Or is it just that im a crap driver?;)

350BHP,Monster brakes and 4WD in a Skoda. Sounds good to me.

Someone hurry up and do it .

Steve

Ive seen the light and it had 4x4 stamped on it:D

If and when finances allow (2004?) I can see that a Max Power version of my 4x4 estate is going to be very tempting.

I wonder how much I'd be able to get away with before she'd notice ? I've already had "it's not that much slower than the Subaru - you're not going to chip it are you ?" (Already have :p )

I reckon that I'd just about get away with 280bhp if I used the torque and kept the revs down :)

I've not been to one yet as it's a bit out of the way. I keep meaning to though!

why would you want a 350bhp sheep lugging 4x4?

Des's split personality was probably thinking of a 4x4 hatch :D

But it's not out of this world: here (in the fourth post) is a guy who actually wanted one...

Paul,

I would steer clear of the Miltek rear box, a number of us me included found that the rear box tended to move around a lot ch producing an annoying rattling sound at low speeds. In the end I replaced the rear box with a hand made one which sounds and looks a lot better IMHO.

Here's my 2p worth, FWIW.

This is my own person preference and not to everyone's taste. My RS very rarely gets to see a m/way so I have tailored the car to suit my needs, short an sharp in other words. The power comes in at 2100rpm roughly and peeks at 5400rpm just above 242.7bhp and 266.2ft lb (now that the Milltek s/cats is on).

All of this adds up to hell of a standing start or standing still start for a second or two in most cases, that still gets me a sub 6 second 0 - 60, so what does this tell us, I think you all know the answer. IMHO 280bhp is the limit for a stock running gear RS and according to Mike at Jabba the power will come in at 2700rpm with the IHI Stage 1 conv. still low enough for all hell to break loose from a standing start.

As for grip (please note I said grip) around bends the RS wins hands down everytime any day of the week, sorry 4X4 owners driver aids aside they let go to early.

As for traction and as Steve found out in the S3, the 4X4 wins no question. Just needs a bit of fettling to make it great, something you just can't do in the RS. If you want to go higher you have to go down the 4X4 route, IMO
