Running out of revs when overtaking?

Featured Replies

Actually.. What I've noticed is The 'Achilles heel' for the fabia on A-road overtakes is around 40-45mph, when its nearing the limit of 3rd gear and needing to change to 4th, sitting at 4th from the start is no good either as its only around 1.5k revs.

In this instance I normally go for 3rd, then by time you're hitting 60-70mph you should be pulling clear and able to move back in. Maybe with a truck you would have to change to 4th. If you know the road well, drop back and pick up speed prior to the over take and begin in fourth.

My 2p's worth!

Yeah, thats pretty much what I've resorted back to again (I used to take a run up prior to overtake in my lil 1.4 8v mpi classic..). If people are going 40's I normally would require to overtake 2 cars.. :giggle:

the rev range on the fabia as standard will only go till about 3.5k maybe a little more, then its pretty pointless staying in that gear. a remap will give you up to about 4.5/5,000 rpm, but as mentioned its a diesel so why not use the torque it has

Fabia is a good little overtaker in all circumstances i found, when i needed another gear i slotted it home and rode the wave of torque past whatever it was i was overtaking, if you struggle to overtake safely in a fabia you really shouldn't be driving, tho i allways struggled in the wet when the diff locked up and tried to throw me into the o/s ditch

I never had any probs over taking in my std vrs. Diesels are a dream to over take in. I had a 1.4 tdi fabia 2 as a hire car while mine was being fixed and even that was carrying a fair bit of poke.
