new 60 plate

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the earliest you can have a new vehicle on a new plate? is it midnight on the first of the new plate month (ie 1st sep), could i drive a 60 plate around on the 30th of August or would i be breaking some kind of law, could i have my car on the drive ready for the 1st?, are we alone in the world at waiting till the first? we brits are funny sometimes. :giggle:

Thanks everyone

I saw a 60 at the local garage a few weeks ago but obviously not in use.

I suppose if the car is behind gates on your drive then it's not actually in use. There could be insurance problems though.

You can't drive it until it's registered and taxed (which is the 1st Sept.) so 0001hrs would be the earliest you can drive it on the road, the dealer however could legally deliver it on trade plates providing it was parked off the public highway.

Insurance might be another thing though? - would you want a brand new car sitting on your drive uninsured??

Thanks a lot guys, you have confirmed what i thaught, ill just have to wait a few more days to live the dream before joining those other lucky VRS divers on the road :)

i was thinking down the same lines. i have loads of off road parking so lack of Insurance wouldnt be a issue. do you think many dealer would do this ?

You can only ask.

want to give it a good clean and a wax before i start using it

When taking delivery of new cars previously, I've been allowed to drive the car home on trade plates so that it could be driven at 00:01 on the first day of the new registration. Mind you , that was going back a few years when there was only one registration change each year and a new plate was a real big deal. Would depend on the dealer I guess.

Of course lack of insurance might be an issue if the car was stolen off your driveway before midnight!! ??

Also, if you are buying part of the car on finance I would think that the terms and conditions of that would insist on the car being insured even if only on a private driveway??

that could be an issue, will have a chat with them. just hate the idea of the car being in their car park for well over a week.

It's only 2 weeks, and if they damage it its they're liability

:giggle: n here's me worrying whether or not to bother waiting for the 60 plate (if it arrives in time) COS I WANT TO DRIVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :swear:

You can always insure the vehicle on the CHASSIS NUMBER. I've done this a couple of times in the past with my Insurance (Co-op), when I was buying a new vehicle from the mainland and I wanted an Isle of Wight reg plate. The dealer needed a cover note, but didn't have a reg number because the Portsmouth tax office issued the reg numbers.

Mind you, in those days, (10 years ago), you could pop into the local office or see your local agent. Tax system has changed as well, but the Insurance should be able to insure you on the chassis number if it's explained to them.

Surely it would be worse having the car sat on the drive and unable to drive it!!!!!!

Far more tempting when every time you open the door you see it but can not take it on the road. Least at the dealer it is out of sight so easier to not think about it. It is only a few weeks left now so just be a little more patient!!!!!!

Not really , the plan was to give it a proper detail and add protection to the wheel etc etc. not sure how good or bad Skoda dealer prep is but had planned to spend the weekend making it perfect, if i could get the car the week before I could be driving it rather than cleaning .

Sad i Know

Just make 100% sure a) your insurance covers it, and B ) you can put up with it sitting there for 2 days until you're allowed to drive it.

Checked out my new car today, collecting on Saturday

its a 60 plate vRS CR DSG Hatch :)

Just spoke to my dealer, and he said he will be getting the car this thursday (even though he told me it was on the water on the 17th!!!)

Arranged to pick it up saturday morning. Shame as I have a drive up to liverpool on Friday and was looking to take it.

Cannot wait. Think I am more excited than when I went to Euro Disney last week!

Thanks everyone

Tomorrow 1st of September. Picking up my Octavia SE tomorrow. Got a great deal because it had the 1.9 tdi engine in it rather than the new 1.6 hope I've made the right choice. Looks good though, I thought it was a tried and tested engine thats been in lots of VW group cars. Would of loved a a VRS but had to be realistic about what I needed the car for and living in Merseyside the insurance would of killed me.

You maybe able to drive the car at 0001 on 01/09 but who the hell wants to be up at that time just to drive a car! Must be more interesting things to do like sleep!
