Looking Good!!

Well done Rob - another one at last

Loving the choice of wheels too - very tasty B)

Very nice. love that nice deep colour

Having driven my mums mx5 a couple of times now I really like them and would like one myself, only problem is I couldn't run one daily

Lookin good!

S-special type II - 1.8 with a few choice mods nice!

Looks great. Loving the wheel choice B)

Looks sweet.

but do you do door to door haircuts? :x;)

Gave the car a good clean today. Inside and out. Fitted a windblocker also.

I have to say that the ride is very hard. I think its because of the !6' wheel and tyres. I will see how it goes but may change back to some standard ones. The car is in good nick for a 15 year old one. There are just the very faintest signs of a bit of rust on the wheel arches, but i have looked at plenty of mx5's and for £2500 this one is excellent compared to many others going for the same price. Going to underseal it next weekend and also get so me cavity wax into the sills and various other nooks and crannies.

The car has an aftermarket cat back exhaust and it sounds excellent. Even pops and burbles at certain revs. The air vents where all loose so have had a go at sorting these out. Also the wing mirors are siezed in their current positions. Need to remove them and sort them out too.

I reckon if i did nothing to it i would get a good chunk of my cash back in a couple of years anyway especially after some of the ones i have seen where people ask crazy prices.

Do you know what suspension it has on it?.. have a look under the car and see if you have yellow struts.... if you do, thats your problem lol.

The S-Specs come with bilstein suspension and the dampers are silly-hard which is why they were never an option in the UK.. it does look like yours may have been lowered so possibly has some different springs on.

I have a S-Spec type 1 and have the same problem with the bilsteins.. the dampers are that stiff that the chassis ends up doing most of the damping and it rattles and shakes like a barsteward.

ill be jumping on a set of the 160quid adjustable coilovers when they come back in stock emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

It does have the bilsteins. My MK2 used to have them but it never felt as hard as this one. lol.

Glad you go there in the end :)

Yeah.. common mod in the US is to send them off to get them re-valved to mk2 spec.

What would be a good upgrade for my springs/dampers then?? Any suggestions?

Nice set of wheels on it. Looks a tidy motor, not so keen on the seats look a bit like they've come out of a Madza 6 taxi, otherwise top choice for some wind in the hair motoring.

Depends on what you want to spend... theres a mahoooooooooooooooooooosive thread on nuts about the cheap ebay coilovers... they are getting very good reviews for 150quid.. although out of stock for another month or so.. (im waiting for a set of these)

failing that your looking at a 500quid set of gaz gold pro's or something along those lines.

When they finally start to go they go one of two ways - either soft or rock hard. Mine went rock hard!

If you're looking for some good replacements then I can Recommend the Koni adjustables or the Puredrive set up form Phil at Performance5. Either way I'd give Phill a call as a starting point as he knows the cars inside out and, if you talk him through what you are looking for he'll recommend something.

If it's an RS it would have been a 94 in Montego Blue Mica but it doesn't have the Recaro buckets so I'd guess it's a G Limited in Satellite Blue Mica with different wheels.

It is an S-Special Type II. In Montego Blue.

Have to say i am starting to really enjoy it now. It is a very firm ride but on a good road its excellent. The sound of the exhaust is amazing especially with the roof down and my right foot buried into the carpet. LOL

Will hopefully get the Dynax out at the weekend and fill her up in all the right places.

I know they are not the fastest car but my god the handling is amazing. Honestly, everyone should have one at least once in their life. This is my second midlife crisis/ hair dressing job and i dont regret it one bit.

Aha - Nice... I had it in my mind it was a '94 model year car on a '95 M-plate like mine for some reason which is why I thought it was either an RS or G as the dark blue colours were introduced on those cars and the G had the low-back buckets rather than the recaros. Now I've looked again can see it's an N-plate so that makes sense as the S-Special (and S-Special II) was available in Montego Blue, Brilliant Black, Chaste White or Classic Red (am I a geek or what! :giggle: ).

The difference between the S-Special and the S-Special II was apparently only Potenza RE010 tyres and 6J x 15 BBS's alloys which have gone but the other S-Special stuff looks to be still be there (uprated suspension and Bilsteins, thicker anti-roll bars, front tower brace, polished treadplates and speaker surrounds etc.). It should also have the 133bhp series II 1.8 engine with the light flywheel, 16-bit ECU and 4.3:1 final drive but not sure about a Torsen LSD :p .

It does look in great condition though!

Iknow what you mean about the exhaust - I have a stainless IL Motorsport cat back system on mine and it's great at WOT with a big cone filter  , as is the handling

I've had mine since 1998 and it's the only car I've had that I have never thought about changing... B) Will have to do a compare and contrast at some stage!

Cheers for that. Will have a read.

Today i have been using Dynax S50 in the sills and Dynax UB on the underside of the vehicle. Have to say i was very impressed with the UB. I cant see me having much of a rust problem during my ownership of the vehicle. Did the same with my old MK2 that my dad now owns and it is still in excellent condition underneath.

Also fitted white side reflectors and a grille. Waiting for my white side repeaters as they are out of stock at the mo.

Want to get a sticky front number plate from somewhere too.

I have got the 2.0litre sports model hard top fantastic car but I need to get it lowered it looks like a 4 x 4.Your car looks really clean for its age.
