VRS Driver's seat fabric damage

Featured Replies

I have a new VRS fabric and part leather seating. The driver's seat squab and back rest show the material fluffing up

as though worn. On attempting to make a warranty claim the dealer informs me I will not succeed as the damage

is clearly attributable to Velcro coming into contact with the fabric and thereby damaging it.

Has anyone else experienced this problem please? The question I also pose is should the damage be attributable

to the material coming into contact with an item of clothing or other which has velcro surely this indicates that there

is a deficiency in the seat fabric if it sustains damage so easily?

I had no such wear on my old vrs seats after 4 years. Do you have clothing with velrco in the places where the wear is? It is hard to see how it would come into contact with the rear of the seat and also the squab. You may need to be more forceful with the dealer.

I have an 07 plate Vrs TDi and the light coloured seat fabric is looking rather worn leaves like a white dust in the car, may have a re-trim

I had a similar problem with my Jan'07 Octavia Classic, I bought is used with 1 month of orgininal warranty, whish I had made a warranty claim but did not now it's to late!

Assuming it is not a velco problem I would contact Skoda CS & push har for replacement if your car is still under warranty.

I bought one of those workshop manuals (dogy?!) from ebay and it is mention in there that a replacement should be made if this kind of thing happens.

Blue skies and calm seas.

Hi, I put a seat cover over my old vRS drivers seat to protect it from my "work attire". The cover was in sections and it had two strips of Velcro which came into contact with the squab and backrest and when I removed it to return the car to the dealer it had fluffed up. I don't know how widespread yours is but I got my small phillishave travel razor and gently removed it to the point where it was hardly visible. I will not be using the same seat cover on my next one though...! :dull:

Has happened recently on our CR VRS, side bolster is out of joint and scuffing has appeared on drivers seat fabric. Both are being replaced F.O.C. under warranty by local dealer no quibble. 10k on clock. Known fault according to dealer. Didnt happen on previous PD VRS and we had 20k on the clock.

Hi, No it was the small travel twin headed one that works of batteries, I think it cost £10. But I see no reason why a triple head won't work. I know it sounds peculiar but it did the trick.

My old Vrs suffered the same fate. I went on Holiday wearing some Sprayway shorts with velcro fastening back pockets. This furred up the black mesh something chronic after just ONE day. I learnt my lesson and velcro is banned from my new un.

Having said that, slowly, furring is occuring again through wear and tear. Modern jeans with stupid seams and badges seems to be the problem.

Time to dig out the flares then?

I have a similiar problem on the uprights of both rear seats. It's been caused by the child seats rubbing against the mesh, I was going to try an electric razor also.

I have always used the rubber seat protectors with my child seats. They cost around £25 from Mothercare but have kept my seats looking perfect underneath.

Ive just had both seat backs and leather covers replaced in my car as the bolsters had come adrift and caused the leather to tear...although when replacing the leather on the drivers side they managed to rip it!!!! so im having to wait for another one now. Not bad for a car thats 10 months old!!!

As for the furring, i used to just give the seats in my previous Vrs a quick shave!

I had a complete set of seat covers but they obviously didn't help! :(

I have a 2010 VRS TDi, I have suffered the same problem. At first I was told that I must be wearing trousers with Velcro pockets on the back, I informed the dealership that I did not own a pair of said trousers. Eventually I managed to get the seat cover replaced at around 18.5K under warranty. The same thing has started to happen again!!!! After only 2.5K!!!!!! I went back to the dealership who generated a customer complaint with Skoda, I was basically told that it is not a fault with the material. I have written a letter of complaint to Skoda / VW over a month ago and I have not received a reply as yet! So today I have re posted the original letter with an accompanying letter registering my disapproval! now if you ask me as someone who spent 6 yrs working for Mercedes Benz in one of their dealerships but I do not claim to be any kind of expert, if you can’t get into a vehicle on a daily basis to go to and from work (like I do) or the shops etc etc (it's not like I do 30k a year and spend most of my working day on the motorway network) wearing Cotton / Wool trousers or Denim Jeans then in my opinion the material is not up to standard and is fraying like mine is then I would suggest the seat coverings are not fit for purpose!!! I'll let you know how I get on!

Might get this on link below if I start experiencing problems!

Fabric fluff bobble remover thingy ma bobby on ebay cheap

I must admit I didn't notice any major issue on my seats on the 56 vRS I sold about 6 months ago.

I mean the drivers seat gets used every day so if anything was going to get worn that would be it.

Fear of seat wear was one of the reasons I went full leather on my new car.

I have always used the rubber seat protectors with my child seats. They cost around £25 from Mothercare but have kept my seats looking perfect underneath.

I use the seal protectors for my kids seat too, it even has the cut outs for the isofix.

Had the drivers seat cover and bolsters replaced under warranty around February time and 33k now 40k and its needing done again bolsters are flapping about and the alcantara section is starting to rip.

Well I've missed this post before.

My drivers seat back was starting to fray near the bottom and originally the dealer said they would replace the seat back cover under warranty.

That's when the problems startedemoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

The dealer themselves did it and the seat shape on the door side is out of shape and 'loose' on the outside.

Dealer then said that Skoda had clarified to them at a service managers meeting that fabric covers are not covered under warranty. However my dealer has said they will get the quality of the fitting of the cover to my satisfaction without any cost to me

It has been back twice to a VAG approved bodyshop who have not solved the problem

Now in for the fourth time for a specialist seat trimmer to have a go at fitting the foam, airbag and cover correctly.

He seems to think there should be no problem. I left them in no doubt that it has to perfectly match the finish and fit of the passengers seat

I have never had a seat wear problem in any other car I have owned

If this does not fix it, I will be insisting on a complete new seat or seat back

Well I'm glad to report that they have finally got the new seat back cover to fit properly.emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Driver's seat now looks the same as the passengers seat.

As a gesture of goodwill the dealer is giving me a discount off my next service.

Sounds like the service manager will be having stern words with the so called 'VAG approved bodyshop' after their two failed attempts to fit it.emoticon-0183-swear.gif

The specialist seat trimmer obviously knew his stuff. emoticon-0148-yes.gif
