Octavia Vrs 1.6 - Does It Exist ??

Featured Replies

Met this Skoda enthusiast the other day who also drives an RS or at least claims to. It's a 00 model which he claims he imported from Germany. It's 150bhp and has a 1.6 turbo engine. Now I'm no expert but I didn't no Vag made a 1.6T engine. He says they did only in Germany, and he drives it 'cause he couldn't afford the insurance on the 1.8T. Strange it's right hand drive then. And of course it has the bog standard Octavia interior, no rear spoiler or skirts, but he has added these, along with 17" alloys and vRS badges on the front and back. Even on the side of the car. Unsurprisingly the thing also has 2 huge exhaust pipes out the back. I saw his tax disk and it does indeed say 1598cc or something, but printered underneath in a different font is Skoda Octavua vRS Turbo. Now I know in Ireland they don't print that much detail on the disk.

So does anyone know if this could be a geniune limted edition RS 1.6 or is it a fake.

Also, the chap claims the vRS is also made in a 2.0T version, which is the rally spec and available on special order. My dealer seemed confused when I asked them. Any thoughts ?

Sounds very much like a wind-up merchant to me... Wonder if it could be... nah, it couldnt be.. ? ;)

And there is no 2.0T vRs right ?

Just the 1.8T I am afraid.

I suspected as much or I would have bought it in Sept. last year.

It suspect the poor man's rendition of the vRS does exist - here.

But without the turbo.

I'd imagine it would be possible to fit a turbo to a 1.6 though...it'd probably cost about

There is no such engine listed by Skoda. The most powerful 1.6 litre engine in the Skoda line-up delivers 102 bhp.

Its definately a wind up. Ask him for a race and see if he agrees or hesitates!!!

"Wind-up merchant" wasn't me!

There is a 1.6 RS, Red and Silver badge not the usual green, red and silver same as Audi RS 4,6 badge but without numbers.

Seat GR offers a Turbo upgrade for their 1.6L Toledo/Leon. Well actually quite a few 1.6L engines here in GR are offered with mods like that due to the insane (up to this year) taxation.

So even Subaru GR offers the Impreza 1.6 in 150 and 180 Bhp versions, Huyndai offers the coupe in a 145Bhp version (turbo). So maybe it is this kind of beast, or a limited prototype or similar either from skoda-auto or skoda-de or similar. Who knows. Race it ;)

Hmm...driving holiday to Greece on the cards possibly... ;)

Lol, it sounded "sad" untill I just read my post back and it seems quite a good deal :)

Did I mention Subaru GR offers the STi with 330Bhp?

Hark at the resurrection of a six-year-old thread!

The other evening, I spied in my rearview, a cherry red Octavia being driven rather briskly by two young chaps in cheap suits.

I indicated, slowed and pulled into the inner lane of the quiet dual-carriageway I was on, to let the Octavia, apparently an 03-plate despite looking immaculate, both catch up and overtake.

And you know what... as it went past, I did see on its shiny derriere, a silver badge with a '1.6' on it and also, 15 inches to the right, a gleaming 'T'.

'A 1.6T Octavia, huh?!' I pondered.

'Never seen one of those before.'

So, anyway, short story cut yet shorter, the 1.6T didn't quite have the necessary oomph to pull away from my Furbatron.

Of course, I do realise that what it says on the tin does not necessarily have to bear any relation to what's inside, but it is nonetheless, anecdotally at the very least, interesting to have come across an Octavia badged as it was.

Indeed, it's how I stumbled across this ancient thread.

Keep your peepers peeled and you might spot one too.

Right thats it - I m sticking a T (for tubo) sign next to my 1.6 logo!

I have seen a website showing a petrol Skoda Fabia RS. I thought it was a 1.8T but rechecked the page and it has a 1.4 16v engine in it.

See : Fabiatou.com: Skoda Fabia RS

and here for the translated version: Google Translate - Skoda Fabia RS
