focus rs or maybe the focus rs 500?

nah a little bit overrated, and get caught out by alot of other cars, standard focus RS regularly dyno at 280Hp (on dyno dynamics rollers) all over the country, so 20 HP down. I can tell you for one that a stage 2+ vRS can keep up with a standard one from a rolling start provided its not to twisty. so can vRScarl who i believe tried it against one on a runway with similar results. aloso the fact that the mountune stage 2 cars are renowned for being ALOT quicker than the vRS is just ridiculous.

and the Focus RS500 which with an alleged 350Hp actually only makes 320hp on dyno dynamics rollers

the problem with the focus,id love one, but evryman and their dog would be trying to race you all the time, which would become tiresome,

i'm not a major fan of most mentioned they were just possibilities :giggle:

i'm an old skool fan so if it were my money a sierra rs500 would be on my drive way

like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-SIERRA-RS-500-COSWORTH-STUNNER-/280534095451?pt=Automobiles_UK

Either a nearly new boxter s or a new 135i

Or if you need more practicality an Octy vRS and an MX5 ;)

apparently, it depends on if they're tested properly or not. being fast in a straight line isn't difficult or fun though :| and it's 350PS

Second hand Caterham 7 and a cheap used diesel golf.

Or a Yamaha R1 and a cheap used diesel golf with money left over for the pampers you'll use up on the R1 (0-100 sub 6sec).

But out of your choices A second hand Megane sport would give cheap thrills with money to spare Vs the S3. S3 is obviously the better day to day car.

theres a destinct lack of anything RWD on that list!

thanks for that, very interesting read, and makes sense.

Still, it doesn't explain how a 280hp vRS can keep up with a car with an alleged 20Hp more power

Diesel supermini owner in distinct lack of imagination shocker! Hold the front page, Batman!

Depends what you want the car to do, For a track car then the Megane R26R is the best, runs rings round the Focus RS, aparently no good on the track. The downside is - It's French.

Because there's little point in a RWD everyday road car. :notme:

(I've owned a RWD car for 10yrs now, so I'm not that biased either!)

Get a B6 S4. 4.2 V8.

Why? is a RWD car incapable of getting from A to B ???? :S

Very soon I think I'll be changing the fabia for a new car, either brand new or 1/2 years old and I have so far decided on the 3 cars in the list and just wanted other peoples opinions on them or better still more cars around the same price.

Any info would be great :)

None of the above (in the poll). If I had a decent wedge I'd be dropping it on either a: Nissan Skyline R34 GTR, a very tidy example of a Honda NSX or a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX FQ-340/360.

(ps. I know you are stipulating new/nearly new but c'mon man! :D)

None, If i had to choose the Megane wins hands down. The S3 is whey to expensive for what it is, and The Astra is a chavs car, and is slow standard.

The Megane is made in a different factory to the other rust buckets, and is made really well made.

If I had around 30k, i'd be in a BMW M3 E46 (15k for a really good one) or a Skyline R34 GTR (20k for the GTR)

BMW or S3. ST isn't in the same league, I'd rather spend a little on the fabia and go upset the st drivers

Matt

I voted Stage 3 Fabia...

But that's because I'm always daydreaming of having enough cash to say "Fuk-It.. I'll have everything please.. including cream leather with the plastics out of an elegance".. but that's just me.. lol! The Audi will loose you less monies ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone there seems to be a mixed view on various cars which is good :)

I'm not wanting something like a skyline, impreza etc as whatever I got would be an everyday car so would have to be reasonably priced to run.

I'm swaying more towards the S3 as it's been my "dream" car and I think if I didnt go for one when I had the chance I would probably kick myself for it !!!

I have thought about BMW's, seat's, vauxhall's and a few others but the S3 seems to be the one for me I think, it's easy enough saying that but trying to find one 2nd hand (I wouldn't buy brand new as the price of a 1-2 year year old one with hardly any miles on has lost approx 8k from new) with the options I want (sat nav, rs4 seats and adaptive headlights) is proving a bit of a mission really, there seems to be plenty of white ones about but I'm after either a sprint blue, imola yellor or orange one :)

I haven't test drove any cars yet so that would be the ultimate decision maker :)

Thanks for the replies everyone

The S3 is very small inside, smaller than a vxr astra.

I'm six foot and struggle to fit in drivers seat comfortably, there's no where for your left knee, it just bangs against plastic rails next to radio.

I had a 58 plate Astra coupe and it was easily more spacious behind the wheel.

I'm torn between the S3, S60R, and mazda 6 MPS at the moment. Im wanting AWD, great interiors, high std power with good tunabilty. thing is though, low mileage S60R and 6MPS can be had for 6-9k, and they are standard FULLY loaded with extras. to get an S3 of the same age, mileage with the same leather interiors and same interior gadgetry etc is another 7k ontop of them, and its not 7k better. there is an element of paying for a badge with audi. great buy new, as they hopld onto their money so well. but as a a second hand buy, not so much.

As others have said though, its not the most spacious car though, which is the major off putting part for me. although it will be better than your fabia for space. ive come from an octavia vRS so im used to uber amounts of space

Yeah know what you mean about the price, an 07 plate with average miles on is around 20k and thats pretty much basic spec !

If the S3 is smaller inside than what the astra is then that will be a major down side as I'm 6' 4" and struggled to sit comfortbly in the astra, I've got any amount of room in the fabia :)

Will have to go for some test drives me thinks

If I struggle in a S3 at six foot, you might as well say bye bye to your left knee right now!!!!

Mk 5 R32...

That V6 is to die for, very quick and defo cheaper than an S3, I'm considering one - Have you seen the Top Gear review, in fact all reviews rave about the car, only downside is the tax and mpg but tbh it's not that much more and when you are buying a car like this that shouldnt really matter

...or Mazda 3 MPS (Mk 1 but on an 09 plate) for £5k less, I agree the newer one is pretty ugly! Ultimate for me would be BMW 535d M-Sport Touring, mmmmmm!

all teh R32 brings to the party is a good noise. not a quick car. a stage 1 TFSI vRS can stay with one no issues, stage 2 and bye bye
