MK4 Golf Backbox - are they the same as Octy Mk1 vRS

Featured Replies

Just had a blueflame fitted to my vRS so the standard exhaust is sat in my garage waiting to be dumped, however....

...I've just lowered my wifes Golf GTi MK4 and fitted some 4motion valances to it, but as theres no performance exhaust on it at the moment, the exhaust cutout is empty.

I've lined up the exhaust next to the Golf and as far as I can see, the backbox is identical apart from the extra length on the Octy pipe needed to reach the back bumper.

So basically I'm wondering if the OCTY backbox is the same as the Golf - obviously the pipes from the silencer to the tailpipe are longer, but I'm going to cut these down so that the standard vRS tailpipe is at the correct length to fit the Golf and fill the hole - never seen a Golf yet with an Octy tailpipe.

The basic question is - does the exhaust follow the same path as the Golf, and if so are they all the same pipe diameter!!!!!!!! Any help will be appreciated!!!!

Hi Rob,

The rear box is the same, other than the length of the tail pipes which are much longer on the Octy just to move it up to the rear bumper :)

Everything Chassis wise to the Mk4 Golf and Octy Mk1 is the same :)

Haha!!! Good man I love it that you are modding the car without her knowing! Or maybe she does but does not know when! :D

Hahaha!!! I've done a few things without her knowing, bought the wheels without her knowing until we went to fetch them, I was lucky as they were the exact wheels she wanted.

She picks the mods (well I make her think its her idea lol)

Its currently running 18" TT Quattro Sport Rims, Full cream leather interior (every piece of trim and carpet changed) Neuspeed induction, Forge DV, VR6Clutch and G60 flywheel, -35mm suspension set up and 4motion valances (hence the need for the exhaust tip)

The only thing that she really insisted on was the cream interior which I didn't think would work on a sunburnt orange car, but it really does go nicely. The rest of it is pretty much my own work lol its like having two cars to mod!!!!! She loves it tho, its her first car and it looks the dogs for a 5door Golf (had to be coz of our daughter, so much less hassle with 5 doors), wish my first car was as nice as hers.

If it all pays off I'll stick a picture on, if not, I'll just keep quiet!!!!!

I'm posting this from my phone so I'll keep it short.

Modified my vrs backbox to fit the wife Golf GTi. Slightly to the left but ran out of time to adjust the hangers today

I reckon it looks pretty good, considering it cost me nothing as the old exhaust was gonna be dumped!
