if you want ease of fitting go for a forge/ths style shifter,

the other style like i have is the B&M arm which are is quite a pita job to do.

decide which kit and download manufacturers guide or have a search on here, think there is a write up on them (5 and 6 spd fit the same basically)

Apparently I had a Neuspeed one fitted by a local tuner but maybe its me but it did not seem like much of an improvement... It almost seems like they did not fit one at all!!! Would I be able to easily fit a Forge one even if a Neuspeed one is fitted. If I go for a mechanic fit can any mechanic fit one.

Which one to go for:

[1] B and M version.

[2] Forge linkage.

Another thing will the same skoda gear knob and gaiter with both types?

Thanks for all the help

nesupeed shifter is the selector on the box that you change, easy and same as forge, b&M and ebay copy are hard to find and are not your average diyer fit.

IF you have a neuspeed one already it is unwise to fit another quickshift as too much throw will result in premature wear to the gearbox clutch and ancillaries and create a notchy feel most likely.

Change the neuspeed one for one that has further adjustment like the forge one that does have adjustment if you are not happy with it.

No if you change the actual arm in the car (b&M or ebay copy)you cannot use your standard gearknob, If you just change the selector you can keep it as you have already.

Neuspeed one should sell ok on here or on ebay which will subsidise the cost of a new one, you can also fit a reduced side shift selector at the same time, forge also do this.

Thanks

Dude.....you lazy....want me to fit it for you too ;)

Joking aside go to their website and you will see it listed....

its as easy to fit as the front to back shifter, depends on your skill, i think its easy, you may not.....

it is however MUCH easier than changing the whole arm!

Damn that is just too far I'm in Manchester!

Thanks but they are a bit far...

awesome it is then

No luck with TT part number ...

Just noticed you're a fellow 4x4 owner.

The B&M style gear levers are a lot more difficult to fit on the 4x4 due to the propshaft running down the middle.

Makes fitting without a ramp very hard. The exhaust has the dropped, heat shields removed, and you've still got to work round the prop-shaft.

One for an experrienced VAG garage. Still maybe 2 - 3 hours work to fit (? - don't quote me on that !)

It is well worth it though.

Makes the vehicle feel like you've got and in-line direct mechanical linkage gearbox as oppose to a little stick moving some cables

Thanks for the advice and help...I do not really want to go to Awesome GTI and need another VAG specialist or someone who can fit a nice quickshift linkage to reduce both forward/back and side to side throw.

Forge seems good but you have to buy 2 expensive parts there is another one by a USA company called 'Diesel Geek'.

Can anyone suggest a place other than AWESOME GTI please?

I want a short shifter that will retain the original gearknob etc.
