A few problems...

Featured Replies

My car has just started to squeek and feel like it is really rubbing/grinding at the rear when I come up to a junction and apply the brakes. It doesnt do it when I reverse so i'm a bit puzzled.

I know it's been covered before if it's the same problem as the Reverse squeking/grazing issue but I havent heard anyone mention it before about when you go forward, if it is different whats the cure? if it's not then i'll read the other posts to find out how to fix it!

Just didnt know if it was a variant of the usual Fabia problems :banghead:.

Also, when I am driving usually between 40-70 I seems like something is flapping at the rear of the car, I thought it was nothing at first, then when the problem hasnt gone away it's really started to irritate me, obviously I can't hear it if im revving the engine or have my music loud. Anyway, I checked the exhaust and it seems clamped on ok, havent seen the underside of the car, although can imagine something is flapping under there. The rear bumper seems fine aswell, wondered if it was the windscreen wipers but washing the rear windscreen soon threw a spanner in the works as it continued to make the noise as it was wiping. Which leads me to believe it's either linked to the squeky/grinding brake noise thing or it is the tailgate boot release catch that has broke (seems ok) or even prehaps the spare wheel cover, although this doesnt seem to hit anything so cant see how it could make such a noise as I can hear it in the drivers seat!

PLEASE HELP ME   :peepwall:

bump...

How many miles have you done?

Is it possible the the brake noise is down to grit being stuck in them or wear on the pads?

Not sure about the flapping noise, when did it start? Have you had a good feel around at the rear panels make sure the bumper isn't loose or anything.

Flapping - just an idea, check the radio antenna is screwed on nice and tight - I've seen some of these roof types oscillating quite a lot in winds...

Another idea - are the rear windows wound up all the way?

We had squeeking/grating problems that came from the rear of our octy.... turned out to be the wheel bush's and anti roll bar.... problem was caused by the all to common speed humps... they aint healthy for the car!!... got the whole lot changed under warrantie.

Can't help on the flapping issue though, sorry

Strange, i'll get the dealer to have a look at it's 10k service.

flapping is wrong... have a good pull on everything back there and check its secure. As for the squeaking, I had a rear brake problem where it squeaked just going along slowly. I wore out the rear pads before the fronts.

Then I destroyed that car and my current one doesn't have the same issue. (I know thats an extreme thing to do when I have brake wear problems, destroy it... :D)

Mine is only when braking when coming to junctions, now happening forward & backwards and does appear to be coming from the rear, as for the flappy thing, who knows!

I had the same problem on my fabia. When I was coming up to junctions to brake a could hear a grinding sound, but thought it was my imagination, also thought that the economy of the car (a diesel) was dropping.

Took it to a garage and took a mechnic out for a drive and it replicated the problem so they knew what to listen for.

They determined the problem as a fault in the rear brakes, causing them to be applied but not released. By the time they sorted it, the rear pads were completely worn out and the disc had been badly damaged by the brakes being applied with no real brake pad. This happened very quickly, between 10000 mile services.

The Disc and pad were replaced under warranty, as well as most of the brake assembly and the problem disappeared. I think the callipers were at fault.

Chris,

As for the flapping thing, check the heat shield for the zorst. It comes lose just push the washers back into place and all should be fine.

Not sure but this may be a fairly common problem and known to dealers as when I discussed the common rear brake 'mooing' problem with the workshop and happened to remark that I parked the car on the gearbox and not the handbrake in my garage at night, they were very quick and insistant that did I use the handbrake to avoid it seizing up.

Have a word with Dogmaul his was like this and it got sorted IIRC.

its back again !!!!

dont think it likes the cold

I'm sure it's the rear bumper rubbing against the body work, you can reproduce this by pressing down on the bumper slightly.

So far I do not have a solution but it does not happen that often so I'm not to worried.
