Rear leaking doors...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

picked up a used 2006 VRS, and after the torrential rain lastnight my wife noticed the rear carpets were soaked through...

I take its to do with the door carriers? Is this by and large the main culprit??

I'll have to do it on the weekend, as the missus is away with he car until Friday! :(

Kinda takes the shine of a "new" car...

This is a common problem on the Fabia and I know what you mean about taking the shine of a new car, I'm sure there is a fixing guide on the forum for this problem, for me in the winter I used to have newspapers under the mat to soak up any dampness.

must amit ive seen it mentioned a few times but never really read a thread to find a fix, is it anything to do with the door aperature seals?

On the off-chance, I rang a very highly regarded independent in West Midlands. He stated that he had never heard of this problem on the Fabia, passats yes...Fabias no,.....

I'll try the fix. I hope to god it solves the problem as my wife will be very very ****ed off by my choice of car for her. She loves the power though! B)

Whats the best sealant for the doors? I take it silicone is a no-go as it does not flex much...

Just read here!

Nice easy job. Will only cost you about £10 to do yourself, so not really expensive, but it may need to be done annually - depends on how good a job you do. I had a lot of trouble with mine, had to reseal about 3 or 4 times, so leave the door cards off until you've tested with a hosepipe or heavy downpour.

I would advise you do them before winter sets in, otherwise you will have frosting on the inside of the windscreen, and will be waiting 5-10 minutes for this to clear in the worst instance. Not something you really want to be doing on a cold winters evening!

It's normally the rear doors which go, I believe the front doors would be the same process. There are plenty of people on here who may be willing to give you some help if you're local to them. I had someone from the forum help me with mine. The biggest trouble is getting the door cards off.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: you don't need the kit thing which is suggested at the top, not sure what kind of sealant is best to use, the stronger the better I think.

Did mine at the start of last week fortunately! I managed to do all 4 doors in about 2hrs without removing the door cards (just wedged them open at the bottom) using U-Pol Tiger Seal:

Seems to have done the job so far but was a bugger to do as it was going dark, I needed about 3 hands and had little room to work in!

At least I have a dry car now! (but do have a wet conservatory as that has now started to leak...:giggle: )

I'd pop down to your local dealer and see if they'd do it as a gesture of goodwill. It's only a 2006 car, so it's not that long out of warranty. It's a known problem in Skoda (at least it is with my local dealer Chathams Halbeath) so I'm sure they'd be happy to sort it. They are, after all, manufacturers of happy drivers!
