256mm rears on. Thanks to Clive (westallc)

Featured Replies

Finally on :D Cheers to Clive for supplying decent brakes at a good price.

Bit of a pain this morning with shims and stuff, but all in and all bled with fresh brake fluid. Some pics.

Old setup. Crappy white painted centres on hubs to give effect of centre cap on alloys

New disc on. Unsure of make. Think they are EBC

New brake fluid to go in! If this ever boils I will be wanting my £37 back from Motul! :D

New pads, bit fuzzy.... They are yellowstuff ones, plenty of meat left, like the discs

It's not mongrelling unless an angle grinder is being used in anger! :D:D

Complete setup ready to go. Calipers were cleaned up and spray painted red to match my Brembos.

And behind the alloy. :)

nice,

how much did this cost to do and will it have any effect on the breaking ? apart from a good strong steep hill break

Looks good

Noticed a big difference mate?

New discs/pads need bedding in as not been on a car for a while so its actually a step back initially. They will get much better. Just feels odd to have had 256mm on the front originally on this car, and now have it on the back....

Cost was roughly £250 in total I think - calipers from Clive I think were £80/£90, discs & pads you are looking at the same, and the rest labour.

how hard were they to fit do they bolt on the origional mountings ?

Yes they bolt on the orignal mountings. All you have to do is either trim the lip off the heatsheild to allow for the bigger disc or do what I did and take it off totally. Worth noting though for need the 256mm carriers from the 2wd models, 4wd ones dont line up and you have to mess about with spacers inbetween the carrier and the beam and grinding bits off the centre, not worth the hassle.

I'm running 312mm up front and 256mm at the rear and its a very good set up indeed.

Had the same on the vRS estate also, well worth doing if you can get a set cheap enough.

The only down side if there is one is you can the inherit the mooing brake issue in reverse that bugged the MK1 Octavia vRS, for that you need the damper kit to sort that out.

They look like EBC TGDs. Do you really need ventilated ones on the rear? Having said that, I bet you can't buy solid 256mm ones.

What disc & pads do you have on the front?

You would still need to change the carrier though to allow for the bigger disc.

What disc & pads do you have on the front?

I have Cupra R Brembo 4 pots with EBC Ultimax discs and DS2500 pads. :) Together, all three are "The b*ll*cks"

Very nice :)

What car do these come on standard ?

Octvavia vRS and Leon Cupra R are the only ones which spring to mind, for 2wd use. Using the spacer kit from UK MkIVs means you can use mk4 R32 & Audi S3 ones, although I had some Audi S3 calipers before and they didn't fit the mongrel even with the epacer kit. Very odd.

Neither did mine Jason when I tried it on my orginal black vRS back in the day. You need to grind out the centre of the carrier so it clears the disc.

They are also fitted to the Golf/Beetle/Bora and Toledo with the V5 engine and the 1.8T anni Golf iirc.

my full set up were from a mk4 golf anniversary..

wheres you're exhaust?

This man speak'eth the truth. Wanted to create a non-vRS illusion from the back for stealth factor. Had the cutout fibreglassed smooth and painted.

Nice. Are they gains to be had witha side exit exhaust mate or is it just for lol factor? :)

It was:-

a ) dead cheap, like

B ) dead effective, like, because its like, so short and wide

c ) dead hidden away, like

d ) dead noisy, but like, not obvious where noise is coming from

:D

PS: On a serious note I wouldn't do it if you are very low. Speed bumps are a nightmare and I ground it out often. Thankfully I have built some flexibility into the design so it can be "pushed" up at the bend a little.

This is my complete exhaust, turbo manifold to tip. :)
