Green cotton filter cleaner, an alternative?

Featured Replies

I used the lats of my green cotton filter cleaner yesterday (one bottle only did two cleanings :() so I was wondering, as I have lots of oil and getting a complete kit would be a waste, is there an alternative substance I could use instead of the cleaner, and just use the correct oil. I'm not sure what goes into green cleaning solution, but I'd try a mild alternative if there was one (seems like a normal sort of chemical to me, nothing special)

Alternatively, am I able to buy those bottle separately as I've only ever seen them sold with the oil as a twin pack.

Thanks

Don't know if its any cheaper, or if you can buy it seperately, but I'm sure K&N filter cleaning fluid would do the job just as nice.

As for using an alternative cleaning agent - It would maybe be a bit risque as they say any other fluid can damage the cotton filter.

If I were bold enough to try something, I would first try an organic degreaser, like a citrus based one. Any sort of solvent based stuff could damage the filter, especially any rubber bits.

No worries mate......I'm the GREEN dealer out in the Far East and have confirmed with the export manager form GREEN regarding this matter. We were feeling a bit silly wanting to import detergent all the way from France hence the confirmation from him that we can use just plain mild detergent to wash not necessarily theirs..... :D

Trouble is it says to "cover the filter" and to do that took quite a lot of stuff! Thats why I'm looking for an alternative, but obviously not something thats gonna damage the cotton material in the long run. :(

Detergent sounds good - anything a bit more specific? What type? Fairy liquid? :D

Anything with a mild degreasing action should work. After all it's only to remove dirt, and the oily residue from the blown back engine fumes. I'd think Fairy'd be just fine, although it might not remove all the oil.

When they say to cover the filter, I interpreted that rather loosely last time I used it - I put a little in a dish, and used a toothbrush (an old one) to rub it into the fabric. Then rinse off as per the instructions - seemed to work fine.

i pour on and quickly spread it with a brush, then give it a good scrubbing under a warm runnign tap,a little goes a long way jase ;)
