Have been tipped off today about a reoccurring problem with the new VAG 2.0TDi, allegedly. Apparantly cars have been returned with blown engines after only a few hundred miles. Something to do with oil and water mixing. New faulty cars are being unloaded from trailers/transporters with known proplems but are still past onto customers, allegedly. Owners should check water bottles for signs of oil before taking delivery.

Sorry if this has already been posted.

So what is being done to solve those with a) a blown engine on a new car and B) take delivery and find these symptons?

Don't know if this was the problem but I heard of a VW group dealer principle who didn't even get his new Touran off the forecourt before the engine blew.

Is it me or are VAG having a lot of mechanical problems at the moment?

If this is as serious as it sounds, then it may be the pd130 &150,s get a longer life until the problems are sorted.

It's a VW dealership that's blown the whistle. He's got 6 cars with the same problem at the mo all new, all 2.0TDi's. The worst thing is they don't know what the problem is, allegedly. Good word that.

Why does this sound like the old Vauxhall 16V "Red Top" porous head problem...:rubchin:

It'll affect the whole VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat group if they have that engine fitted i would think.

Current cars with EU III (1.9PD 130, 150 & 100bhp petrol for example) engines are given dispensation until the end of 2005 whereas any new models released from 1/1/2005 will need the EU IV engines (2.0pd 140 and the FSI petrol).

I do hope nobody is going to 'dis' the mighty VAG name with this thread. After all we're all one and the same blah blah...... or are we? Don't have damped grab handles and our plastics more plastic than other plastic etc :rolleyes:

Is there a 150bhp TDi in the VW range? Bora's I think.

MKIV Golf, Boring, Sharon, some Audis, Seat Leon Cupra Tdi all use it, off the top of my head. The current Ibiza cupra diesel uses a version of it with a different shape intercooler to fit on the Fabia platform that it uses as the 150 intercooler does not fit otherwise.

But wouldnt the mkV Golf and Touran be classed as current models rather than new, seeing as both have been released to the general public?

yes, so they could (and do) use the 1.9pd until the end of 2005. The EU IV only rule applies to cars launched from today, so the new Bora, Passat, and so on should have EU IV engines only.

2.0 tdi Octavia with 8000 miles here and it's fine so far. I assume it's a duff batch of parts somewhere along the line.

So what happens to existing 1.9 pd models at the end of 2005? Are they likely to replace these with a completely different engine? Or can the 1.9pd be "tweaked" to make it EU IV? (And if so will it be good or bad for mpg/performance etc.?)

I was on the understanding that the 2.0tdi was the tweeked 1.9tdi! :confused:

Hmmm. Best not mention that Dad's Golf 2.0 TDI was in the garage for major engine works for about three weeks, only about 5000 miles into its life then? No? Oh well. ;):rofl:

As I understand it the problem with oil and water mixing was on the first 2.0 TDi engines that were fitted to the Audi A3. The problem has since been sorted in production.

I know of a few 2.0 TDi engines that were replaced in Audi A3's but none in any other brand.

I was on the understanding that the 2.0tdi was the tweeked 1.9tdi! :confused:

Cylinder head is very different, now a cross flow 16v design. Block is basically the same with stronger rods and different pistons (for flow of the 16v design) and now incorporates piston cooling.

The 2.0 TDi is also fitted with a new cooled EGR system and an RPM sender (crank sensor) built ino the rear main oil seal (hall effect).
