1.8 TSi, real world fuel economy?

Featured Replies

I am expecting my L&K TSi Estate in November and am wondering what the economy is like. Does anyone have any long term figures they can share with me?

Steve

Well I can say that compared to my 1.9Tdi Elegance my new Scout just seems to guzzle fuel ! I can almost see the gauge moving ! Am I complaining. NO ! Do I regret going back to petrol ? NOT FOR A SECOND !

I think there is a review of the 1.8Tsi on Youtube and they mention fuel consumption.

I do about 30k a year, but after dpf and dmf problems have decided to go down the 1.8 route too. Can't wait.

I drive mine quite enthusiastically and my average is 33.5mpg. On a long run to Scotalnd and back I was getting around 40mpg so a general average would be 35 mpg for a mixture of roads (Motorway/ A roads/ town). I'm sure this could be improved on if you drive carefully but the 1.8 TSI engine is such a great engine and happy to rev!!!

Thanks guys, not bad considering the performance. I changed my order from a CR140 and the wait reduced by 6 weeks, so am eagerly awaiting delivery!

My L&K 1.8TSI DSG Estate has done 38mpg over 6000 miles. I drive for reasonable economy but up to speed limit on motorways and other roads. Will get up to 42mpg on a long run.

I have a 1.8TSI SE Hatch, its 10 months old and i have put 20K on it, motorways I get about 44Mpg, daily commute (56miles country lanes) I get about 38Mpg, and I do boot it, because its fun and and just pulls :)

Fantatstic engine and 6 speed gearbox !

Dave

i have had my new 1.8 tsi l&k estate for a month, done 800 miles, computer showing 32mpg

8 mile commute to work, 0-60mph

I typically get about 37mpg from my remapped one, though I've seen it drop as low as 30mpg on short journeys in winter.

I would be amazed if I do not get an average of 45 mpg. I am currently get 42 mpg out of the wife's TSI VRS and that is travelling at the legal limit plus 10% most of th time (GPS speed not speedo indicated speed) .

I have ordered a 1.8 TSI, which of course has the same EA888 engine as the VRS just a shorter stroke. I have opted for the 7 speed DSG as it get 1 or 2 mpg more that the manual and even gone for the paddle shifts on the steering wheel as I have heard the 7 speed auto sometimes hunts gears so overriding with the tiptonic changing is sometimes good for fuel consumption and driver experience.

If one lives in the SE of England, I often have to drive there, the fuel consumption would expect we drop to nearer the Urban figure ie 30-35 mpg but in the rest of the country I fully expect to average in the mid 40s. Got the range on the wife's TSI VRS up to 540 miles so expect the 1.8 TSI DSG to be able to show over 600 miles. My view is 1.8 TSI is the pick of the bunch, quicker than all the diesels, cheaper to buy and I would call "economically" for its performance!

Totally agree - I like sporty cars but can't see any reason (for me) to get vRS over 1.8TSi. I feel if you never use the full performance of the car you've got, why get something hotter? TSi has benefits in insurance, reliability, superb grunt when wanted, but still wtih all the benefits of a softer "family" car. Put the rear seats and shelf down and you have a small truck!

I know that many will want the ulitmate power, remaps etc etc but the standard TSi has all the toys and features I want or need. Skoda have quietly come up with a very desirable mixture of qualities and I hope they just go on improving the design still further. A lot of people don't know what they're missing!

Been looking at getting a 1.8TSI Elegance or petrol VRS, is the handling of the VRS alot better than the Elegance. How much benefit do the 17inch wheels and sport suspension provide ? I've read that the VRS gives a firm ride that picks up all the potholes. Are the seats anymore comfortable in the VRS, they seemed softer than an 07 Elegance I sat in?

Also, is the VRS likely to hold its value better than the Elegance or is more to do with the engine and things like road tax than the styling of the car?

Thanks

I've never driven a Mk 2 vRS (did have a Mk 1) so perhaps shouldn't comment, but, for example, did a fast run from Brighton to Horsham last weekend on empty, winding country roads. TSi felt glued to the road and the acceleration still surprised me, even after nearly 2 years ownership. Perhaps because I don't often get the chance to boot it on an early morning clear road!

Once well into the trip, the readout was in low 40's m.p.g. and that's on Sainsbury's 95 !!

As to resale, forgetting about this forum, possibly a larger general market for a "family" car than a hot rod?

On the M4, on flat sections, in 6th at 70mph the maxidot shows about 45mpg. Not real world I know, but the 1.8 does love to be spun up.

You don't buy petrol for the fuel economy

Just been to Calais & back with my 1,8TSi DSG, and the 188 mile trip it used ¼ tank, which I think is great considering I was stuck in static traffic on the M20 for ½hr. However I do dose my fuel with Millers EcoMax fuel additive, which does seem to make it run smoother & increase the economy.

Never heard of it. How much is it, how much do you put in a tankful and where do you get it?

You put 50ml in a tank full, it's around £12-13 per bottle & it will do 10 tank full's.

I get it at halfords, but I suspect you might be able to find it cheaper.

My Scout gets on open road 42-45 mpg not pushing it. Pushing it 35-38mpg.

I have a 1.8tsi Scout May 2010.I have just completed a holiday of 1900 miles with average 36.3MPG overall, and I am not a slow driver.

Very pleased with the cars performance, comfort ,and space, can't fault it. (4 wheel drive a bonus for Scottish winters)
