parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, this is my first post so please be lenient.

I have recently bought Skoda Superb Elegance 04 plate.

The rear parking sensors are not working and after getting diagnosed , the rear right side sensor is faulty. I rang Skoda dealer and got quoted £99 for one sensor exclude fitting.

Does anyone know where to get an alternative or cheaper parkign sensor.

I couldnt find anything in the old posts unless I missed it out.

Second, the doors should lock once the car hits 15 mph but it doesnt. I did connect the car to VAG but dont know how to activate this option. I dont even have option on maxi dot display ("the convience option")

Anyone know how to activate this option.

Thanks

That's unfortunately the price they are, and there don't seem to be any alternative providers (and I looked as I have 2 of them gone atm) of these sensors. Your best bet might be to regularly check ebay or to try the local scrapyard or car recycler.

Only other option would be to fit a complete (non-skoda) aftermarket kit, but they might not fit exactly, and could leave you with a nasty looking rear.

Any Skoda dealer should be able to set up your door locking - this can be done very quickly and easily - I'd like to think they wouldn't charge for that! I got mine set up changed on a previous Octavia, no probs.

Sorry can't advise re the parking sensors - it does seem expensive - I've had a recent quote for retro fitting a set of full Skoda parking sensors for an Octavia of £199 - they claim this is 'at cost''. Get to know the staff alittle better, they WILL help! I always get discount of any parts at my local dealership.

I have checked on ebay but not too sure if the parkign sensors are standard for every Skoda Supreb or varies from car to car!!!

wouldn't mind paying £20 for second hand parking sensor if it works ...

TPS are only about 10% cheaper than over the counter at a Skoda dealer.

Remember TPS' remit is specifically around consumables and service parts and that is where they are cheap (40-50%) off of list.

On "Normal" non service parts TPS are not much cheaper than being cheeky at a dealer and asking for a discount

thanks newbie you have sold me on these the stealers price is shocking....

Does anyone know if there's an "how to" anywhere on fitting these? Is it just a case of linking to the reverse light power, and an earth?? Mine decided not to work suddenly last week and i nearly reversed into a car on car park, i was about 2mm away before i realised the beeps werent there.... Just getting the long (annoying) beep now.

I can get these of Ebay but will they fit the existing holes in the rear bumper?

thats what i was thinking ! anyone fitted these into the bumper with existing holes

Ive bought a set of these and hopefully will be fitting them this weekend so will let you know if the holes are the correct size or need modification

cheers gix will be keeping an eye on the post to be honest i could of bought 3 sets for what i paid some garage last week just to have a look at them to be told i mate there knackered !!!!!!

Any update on this guys? I've just picked up a Superb. The sensors work intermittently, but that's because a couple of them seen to have popped out their holes slightly. I just need to 'get behind' them to pop them back in....but how are from where?

You can stick your hand behind the bumper to get at 3 of em. The fourth on the N/S is covered tho.

As said I bought a set of these, and to let everyone know they do fit the holes in the bumper trim if you remove the sleeves from behind the trim that the original sensors fit into. The sensors head sits about 1 - 2 mm proud of the bumper trim but with a bit of modification I believe they could be made to fit into the original sleeves for a more oe look. Fitting took about 2 & half hours, bumper removal etc. Wiring is basic and only requires a live feed from the reverse light and an earth. All the other wires have connectors that plug straight into the control box. I removed the original sensor wiring harness and used the grommet for the new wiring. Only criticism is the buzzer as its a higher pitch than the original and sounds a bit cheap but will be swapping it out for the original at a later date. I'll post some pics later so you can see what they look like fitted.

Thanks for this - I might have ago! Is this a common problem? Aslo, what can i do about the N/S one? Whats' the best way to get at it?

I'm assuming my intermittent issue is because they are out of their holes? When they work, they're ok, when they don't, I get a "Beep....Beeeeeeeeep" when I go into reverse!

Syanide

Ok. Put them back into their holes. Luckily, I'm in the UK, the one that is inaccessible for me is the O/S one. Anyway, all of then are back in the holes. I've only tried it once since then and I still get the "beep..........beeeeeeeep", then silence, the again. Until I take it out of reverse.

I'm not that bothered about the sensors, but it would be nice if it worked!

Syanide

A scan with VCDS will tell you which sensor is at fault - they are not cheap to replace though.

Did the AA/RAC inspection not pick up any of these little faults the car seems to have?

Do you not have any comeback on them if they give the car a clean bill of health when it clearly isn't?

I could, but they work intermittently. It is very possible that when he tried it, it worked else he would have told me. I'll see what the seller says.

It's definitely a sensor then? Not likely to be anything else?

Also, is it possible to bypass the faulty one (once I know which it is)?

Syanide

If you don't have access to VCDS you can also hear the ones that are working. They should tick very faintly.
