Car Magazine Thumbs Up

Featured Replies

I wish that Car would make its mind up.

The latest issue for October 2010 sees the Yeti beating the Countryman and I think the Juke. It's hard to be certain about the Juke, as the author likes it but doesn't really clarify whether the Yeti is better or simply different. Does not like the Countryman at all!

Then in the latest about their long termer Yeti, they decide that they do actually like it a lot and the chap who is running it is seriously thinking about buying one with his own money to replace the family Focus.

Now off to have a proper read with a cup of tea.:thumbup:

Thats good to know Trevor, 2 sugars in mine please :giggle:

It's a real Yeti 'love in' this month in CAR. In my opinion as someone who's read pretty much every car magazine going every edition for the last 20 years, unlike a mention in something like 'Which' magazine or pig breeders gazette, such nice words really mean something, as CAR in my eyes is the ultimate authority on what is good in the motoring world.

First off page 47, a quick review on the Roomster Scout points out how the Yeti makes this Roomster redundant and the Yeti's 'pleasingly sharp ride'..

Next the Juke vs Countryman vs Yeti test- platitudes all the way through and talk of the Yeti doing what it says on the tin with 'almost universal distinction', though as the author says 'it only lacks a more interesting tin to make a stronger case'. This is also a good article to see the full frog eyed horror of the Nissan Juke!

And then the Long Termer test and the author is considering buying a Yeti himself, which has to be the biggest accolade it gets from a motoring journalist, surely!

While you're in Long Termers, is worth a laugh reading the BMW X1 review.

Which Yeti was reviewed?

Darn you beat me to it! I got home very late and my CAR was waiting for me on the doormat. I've read CAR since Nov 1989 and they are THE best authority on cars in my book. So if one of their journalists say IN PRINT that they want to buy a car it says a lot.

From the Juke/MINI/Yeti test they say:

Hmmm. He thinks the Yeti is not pretty?!

The author thus likes the Juke best but as we know it is a much smaller car being built on a Nissan Micra platform. So more something for MINI owners to aspire to than something a potential Yeti customer would look at. It is also £3000 cheaper than the 1,8 TSI Yeti they tested.

In the long term test this is what he had to say on their 110 Tdi:

Apologies for the hazy pics! They were taken late last night!

Edit: put pictures in the right order

Also noted that in the Long Termer review, the author made reference to the fact that ipod compatability (ie being able to control the ipod through the head unit) was 'not even an option'.

Obviously we know that SUK pay no attention to customer concerns on this- will they pay attention to comments from the motoring press?

SUK don't care. Full stop.

Which Yeti was reviewed?

Both CAR and WhatCar have tested a Yeti 1.8TSI against a Nissan Juke and Countryman CooperS (but the pics don't show the same Yeti).

Perhaps not surpisingly, both mags then criticise the Yeti for high running costs!! If they're concerned about that why didn't they get a 170 bhp TDI??
