I am betting the Audi wouldn’t handle as well as your Octy and would probably suffer pretty bad understeer :( I bet it wouldn't be so quick either. I’m lucky enough to have a V6 A4 and do think that the Audi interior makes the car seem a little bit more ‘special’ than say a VW, but and it’s a big but, you expect so much more from the car it struggles to live up to your expectations. I’m still in my honeymoon period and have only covered about 7k miles in it, but I detected a slight squeak coming from the door recently and the clutch pedal has a nasty feel when the car is fully warmed up on a hot day (the cure seems to be to drop the engine and transmission according to the Audi forums!!).

The engine in mine is the 3.0 tdi and it makes a very pleasant noise, especially for a diesel :)

tractor fuel? - no thanks....

I remember watching 5th gear doing a test of two of the new larger Vag V6 petrols and they put them around the track, they then went around in the A4/A6 3.0TDI Quattro and there was nothing in it? I know I see one around Bridgend in a dark metallic Blue and I can't help it but I do think "I want one" (has to be an Avant Quattro though :D) Anyone confirm what a 3.0TDi maps too?

I remember Jason Plato (yumm) driving a 3.0tdi against a Passat R32 (I think that’s what it was) and he said he preferred the A4s handling. Mine has the Drive Select and Sports Diff so it should handle better still. I hear rumours of maps that take the engine to 270/280 bhp and around 410lb/ft :)

that was the one. they took both round the track and there was nothing between them really. so the TDi with a map would be "better" than an R36 Passat :D

those 2.5 V6 till 2004 had many troubles with camshafts(after 2004 audi improve with titanium alloy),fuel anjectors and turbo. The oil consumption is quite high too

personally I would stay away from that engine, the maintenance costs are high

Doesnt the V6 diesel suffer from fuel pump problems & the cambelt change is a costly bussiness.

I did a similar change, went from a MKII VRS TDI to an A6 C6 3.0TDI avant (3.0 is always Quattro).

Do I regret it? Yes and no.

The VRS is the smaller, nimbler and more economical car of the both. The big V6 wants around 2 more liters of derv every 100km.

The VRS is also the (much) cheaper car to drive, upgrade, insure and tax is also a lot less.

But I love the drive in the A6, much easier to cruise at high (=very high) speeds. Although my VRS had no rattles (not even after >145tkm), the audi feels firmer and better built.

Should be, it is 400kg heavier than the VRS!

Overall it is a car that costs a lot more every mile you drive, but for me it is definately worth it.

Chipped it should have somewhere between 270 (mildly chipped) to 290 (more extreme mapping) without any other changes to the engine. Bigger turbo should see 300-310.

I’m finding that for an 80mph cruising speed, I get 42-45mpg (depending on wind direction) but it does take many miles to achieve that figure. Around town I get a LOT less. It’s easily the best motorway car I have ever had (better than my 2.0tdi DSG Octy) and handles surprisingly well, as long as it’s not too twisty (the car is quite big). Is it worth so much more than the Octy? No :( But you could probably say due to the laws of diminishing returns, an A4 isn’t worth twice the price of an A8 :D

I thought the 2.5/3.0 V6 Tdi is related to the superb V6 Tdi

I would advis a look on Superb forum on here to put you off enough. they look like a money pit. 130tdi is probably best engine ever, or poss V6 petrol.

the one i am looking has had the fuel pump and clutch etc done and its fully serviced and he says he is selling as he is getting a company car so he says.

i havnt been to see it yet but he seems genuine enough but he is trying to sell a car i suppose. from what i have read the 2.5 v6 is dear to fix but he says it is mechanically sound.

i might go and have a look and see what it looks like.

what should i look out for?

A6 is a nicer car inside, and if you are cruising for large journeys is a nicer more confortable drive.

Octy is a more sporty drive however, quattro on the audi imo is a must.

Fuel use on the v6s is worse than the 1.8t, i had the 2.7 twin turbo petrol and around town would get low 20s. Crusing was lucky to get near 30.

Imo only get the v6 if you want to lpg. Its a bit lacklustre without the turbos too.

The running costs are higher too, cam/timing belt change is from an audi specialist around 850..... :o

Loved mine though, the avant look super sweet B)

doh, just read diesel not petrol, lol my brain doesnt process diesel!

Too late, it’s in my post :D

nah thats cool, some of my post is still hopefully useful, they are great cars, my friend has a 2.5 diesel and its a nice car!

Nicer than my octavia....till i modified it B)

The 2.5 is an old school no PD engine, not great or that refined. Leaks oil alot, not a fan myself. The 3.0 which is a CR engine is much better, my Dad had an A6 3.0 quattro, much later car though and a lot more money.

A4 is nice, but hey I'd bag an Exeo with the CR engine once they are worth feck all, won't be long lol
