Anyone got a 1.4 TSi yet?

Featured Replies

I wondered if anyone actually has a Yeti with the 1.4 TSi engine yet? and if so, what their driving experience was like?

I have one on order, but am a bit nervous about how it will perform when loaded. I may be worrying about nothing, but the only 1.4 I've driven recently was a very different beast, namely the Fabia VRS, which was very rapid indeed, but has a much more powerful engine in a smaller car.

The 1.2 TSi I drove wasn't bad, but if anyone has any direct experience of the power unit in the Yeti, please share it.

i reg drive my 1.2 yeti with 5 adults..and a full boot....no problems with power, and i live an extremely hilly remote part of yorkshire....cant see u having any issues with a 1.4

The 1.4 TSI in the Octavia is a great unit which also delivers well above its weight. To my mind this should have been available in the Yeti from day one. Probably caused by the Golf & Octavia taking up the bulk of production capacity. Although it is now available with the Yeti, it is only in manual form and not DSG. WHY?

Had it been available from the start, I wonder how many 1.2 TSi's would have sold?

Think there may be another factor here as well, the 1.2TSI is a Skoda engine whereas the 1.4TSI is VW/Audi. Skoda certainly appear to have had precedence with this motor; the Yeti being the first to run the 105 and the Fabia the 85.

Not certain if anyone actually has a 1.4 TSi Yeti as yet. It will be a interesting comparison comparing the 1.2 TSi with it. Has anyone tried the two back to back? Shame the DSG version is not available with the 1.4 Yeti though.

I've driven a 1.4 tsi Octy estate with 4 adults and a child in. No problem at all. As Bassa says, this engine punches above its weight: c.150 lbs torque available from lowish revs and in a wide band.

This is all very encouraging, thanks for the replies. Certainly the 1.2 TSi is an amazing unit, hopefully the 1.4 will be similar. Judging by the comments , that's very likely. B)

I'll be very interested to drive one once our local dealer gets a 1.4tsi demo in and I can see Skoda ditching the relatively inefficient 1.8tsi and replacing it with the twin charged 1.4tsi unit in the not so distant future. That should provide better all-round running costs and provide a drive of similar pace.

I love that twincharged unit, astounding in both the Seat Ibiza Cupra and the Fabia VRS. One of those in a yeti would be just full of win!

I had a chance to test drive Yeti 1.2 tsi vs 1.4 tsi from my local diller in Macedonia.

My personal conclusion of 1.2 vs 1.4 tsi

1.4 tsi takes on good feeling factor on acceleration. It is constant and doesn not feel underpower almost in all gears, briliant. It pulls right away and has that robust engine feel which is missing in 1.2.Talking about 1.2 tsi I had opportunity to test drive with 3 average adult people inside . The first 2 gears the engine pull is below average, but once it takes 3rd with appropriate rpm there is kind of spark of accelaration which is amazingly sensational and fun. That spark of sudden acceleration is just great, comes and goes. Loading the 1.2 Yeti on the second drive with 5 adult I couldnot feel anything from the accelaration the car was lagging after preesing the gas pedal.

I might go for 1.4 but not yet sure + chip tunning box to reach 150 hp, worries: the consumption is little higher (Urban) and in real life transfer to almost 1 liter + of what the company says, which makes 10l urban consumption. With chip tunning decreasing by 10% is possible I was told by the dealer. They ask for 750 euro to instal P-BOX(diffren than chip tunning by PC) inside Yeti which increases hp by 30hp and decrease consumtion by 10-15%, has to be done in offical Skoda Service.

Lol, nice one James! :giggle:

Wouldn't mind a ride round the block in it myself.

I'm off tommorow and Sunday as it's my day of the birth variety but I'm in Monday and you're welcome to come and take it for a spin if you like!

Penblwydd Hapus for the weekend, James.

Thanks for that, I'll try and pop in on Monday then.

Happy Birthday James!

hi, I've been driving my 1.4 tsi since August (3k km so far) and I love every second of it. It goes nicely from the low revs. And I really love the engine when you push it beyond 3000 rpm! And keep it there. I don't know much about fully loaded travels since I mostly commute. When crawling around in traffic it burns almost 10 l per each 100 km...not nice but I don't care much :)

Well I've now driven a Yeti 1.4 TSi, massive thanks to James at Allams for this  .

I have to say the power unit suits the Yeti very well. Its quiet and smooth and progress is very linear , which can be deceptive in realising how well speed increases when you press the throttle. This engine was new and therefore tight, so didn't push that much, but has useful amounts of shove on tap as required. B)

Thanks to Panplan, Bassa, tsi and others for your comments also, it echoes what I found upon actually driving one myself. Its similar to the 1.2 in response, with a bit more oomph. You can feel just a tiny bit of turbo lag, under 1500 rpm, but it IS tiny and you soon get used to that characteristic. My fears that it might feel a bit underpowered were not realised as it seems to have acceleration available even in higher gears, okay not like a 170 TDi or the like, but plenty enough to make driving fun.

Overall I'm very pleased I have one on order and am so looking forward to gettting my hands on it. :)

My pleasure! I shall let you know when your one gets built and is on it's way.

I have it (Yeti 1.4) since Friday. Can't say much till now cause I have only 300kilomoteres and cannot push it hard but it's definetely underpowered below 2000rpms. I hope this will be better after

the first 1500klms.

This is the only negative I can thing of this great car.. The fuel consumpion is about 9.5 in the city. When you reach 3000-4000 rpms this is getting worst...

Mmm, I'll see how mine performs when I get it. I didn't find it too bad over 1500 rpm, but I'll feedback more soon hopefully.

Pete, it could be a little tight as its new. Hopefully it will improve.

Yammas!

When do expect yours mate???

Should be just over a week hopefully. I'm more than happy to compare notes then. I'm not expecting anything very rapid, but relaxing would be good.

From the test a took on 1.4 tsi and 1.2 tsi, I would share that 1. 4 small lage under 2000 which is much better than at 1.2 .

But I wouldnt say turbo laggg under 2000 might be more impresioon lag when the car pull abnormaly after 2000 and everything beloow look like lag.

  • Author

You're probably right, its all relative, it just feels like you get more instant shove above 2000 rpm. I drove a 1.2 as well, but that was with a DSG box, which may have masked any tendency towards lag by changing down, so you were always in the area where the engine pulled really well. Certainly a good combination, best was the Fabia VRS, I loved that, but the practicality battle ( and the fact that the wife loved the Yeti) won in the end, plus the cabin of the SM is a fantastic place to be sat in.

Hi everyone.

Waiting for Yeti 1.4 just prior to 2011. Hope to get on time as the production will be done between 20 and 26 december.

1.4 TSI, Mato Brown metallic, Ambition + some extra for a VERY SWEET PRICE.
