Anyone got a 1.4 TSi yet?

Featured Replies

Are they doing the Yeti with the twincharger engine at all? I must admit we only tend to find out about these things when they turn up.

Hi everyone.

Waiting for Yeti 1.4 just prior to 2011. Hope to get on time as the production will be done between 20 and 26 december.

1.4 TSI, Mato Brown metallic, Ambition + some extra for a VERY SWEET PRICE.

That is one quick delivery. Over here in the UK it take 4 weeks.

I have ordered my Yeti 5 September in Lithuania. Normally it takes up to 6 months to get Yeti in Lithuania. I'll get it just before Christmas (hope so).

They don't currently but I'm betting they will retire the c02 unfriendly 1.8tsi in favour of the twin charged 170bhp unit asap

That might spark a trade in situation for me. I would have had that option at a drop of a hat, or even better the 2.0 TSi lump as in the Scirocco.

Hi Focus,

the 1.8TSI is lumped to 4x4 (obviously; you have one :giggle: ), closest alternative petrol 4x4 is the 1.4TSI 150 4x4 in the Tiguan I belive. This engine produces 185 CO2 in a vehicle that's 170Kg heaver. Would be a better alternative but somehow I can't see VAG letting Skoda have this powerplant any time soon emoticon-0106-crying.gif although one can always live in hope :)

Well after a week and 250 or so miles, I love the easily accessible performance, you can drive this engine in a nice relaxed fashion, bit like a diesel in some ways like early shift points, but the downside is that the petrol consumption isn't looking at all promising. Now it has been cold and I do some very short journeys, first part which is first thing, takes around 2 miles, then park up. First segment up some hills, all round town with a turn never more than a few hundred yards away. On this first part, the trip computer is showing 18 to 19mpg :( , it does improve later when the journey is a little longer, but not massively.

I will brim it tomorrow and see what its done over the week.

Overall I love the car.

Crikey! Just thought I'd jump in on your section. I drive from Carshalton Beeches to Esporta gym, Wallington in my Superb 3.6 and the maxidot shows around 17 to 18 mpg. It's 3 miles and through Wallington. ( I see you're from Sutton so you know the area. ) I wouldn't have thought it would have been so similar!

Your Yeti is so new the economy won't be great, they do seem to wear and in the MPG gets better. Try the same journey when it has done 1,500 miles or so!

This very possibly isn't true for you, but the Yeti is the first vehicle I've owned that's had an MPG meter. The result is that I'm far more aware of MPG when the car's cold than ever I was before. It's entirely probable that my previous cars had an equally bad (?significantly worse?) MPG performance when cold but that I was blissfully unaware of the fact.

Seems to me that one of the best steps the EU could take as a green measure would be to make MPG meters mandatory on all new cars. I can't believe that this wouldn't make many drivers get better mileage out of a fill-up.

Trouble is I find myself obsessed with the mpg readout and worrying about how little its doing. I have really taken it easy ( for me anyway) over the last week, so not much more I can do. If it puts things in perspective, my 2.0 PD TDi DSG Altea would show around the same for that first bit to the station in the morning when very cold as well, difference is that then was showing around 27 average when I pulled up at my office, yeti shows 20!

I am putting this down to being very new so far. Altea wouldn't better 40 on a run till 1500 miles were on the clock, so I think James has a point. Popping out to brim fill in a min.

Red Dog, I'll keep an eye out for you in my travels. My V6 powered item does about the same when cold too, not taking that out in the frost though, I'll stick to my Yeti.

UPDATE!

Just filled to brim, did 273 miles, 120 or so of which were a trip out to the Sussex coast and back last saturday, remainder pretty much round town ish.

Trip computer said 27.7 mpg overall.

Used 9.47 gallons of regular U/L which actually works out to 28.8mpg actual.

So for a petrol engined car, brand new, in cold conditions, lots of stop start, isn't too bad for a kick off. Okay, not in diesel territory, but it is likely to improve.

Bear in mind most people on car forums I belong to, always do better on fuel than me, so this is likely to be an indication of the worst consumption folks will see in a 1.4 TSi.

Hey Nigel

I've been looking still at which way to go with remapping my car when it arrives, hopefully this weekend, and found this on the partner site:

Shark Performance STS 1.4tsi

They are able now to do a switchable map if I understand it right.

Might help with economy.

Nice find Mike, the info seems to indicate that and if so, it could be just the ticket.

It could well aid economy, but a few miles will help as well on that score ,so could be win win.!

I just need to make sure Skoda haven't thrown a curve ball and fitted a new type of ecu like they have with the 1.2.

Update on the 1.4. 2000 miles in and its going pretty well so far. Did nearly 500 miles to Leeds and back this week and it cruised nicely around the legal limit, and average consumption was between 38 and 39 mpg, so improving there. The power unit is still extremely smooth and quiet and that is a feature I really like with this lump. It copes pretty well with being loaded as well and will accelerate reasonably up motorway inclines in top as well. Not exactly as spritely as my old 140 pd with remap, but not bad all things considered.

I still am amazed at how well it pulls from low down in the rev range, 1200 RPM and it pulls like a TDi! ( ish)

Yes a little more would be nice and a remap is in the pipeline, but its been confirmed that the ecu on my car has an additional layer of write protection, even with ecu out, so waiting on a solution to come along for this. Ben at Shark is working on this one, and I'm sure the result will come along soon. He was very thorough in his investigations and explained really well what he was doing.

So the 1.4 is a pretty decent power unit all round really. Yes, I would have liked a 1.8 or even 140 or 170 diesel, but my this one was within my budget and I'm not disappointed.

I've done only 300kms with 1.4TSI by now, mostly very short trips, and Im not worring about consumption cause I know it will come in place once the engine passed ~2000km.

That was the case with 1.2TSI, was 12l/100kms in the very begining, now its ~10l urban.
