Engine Management Computer location

Looking to pull the ECU on a 1.9 TDI to send it in for a remap. Can anyone tell me where this located. The car is a 2001 TDI.

beneath the plastic scuttle panel at the bottom of the windscreen, in the centre

Send away for a remap, are you mad. If the ECU is lost in the post then the remap will cost you at least £1K to replace. Go to a reputable known company who can do it for you via the OBD2 port, plenty of companies now do this all over the UK. This wont cost any more, and the ECU stays in your car.

Agreed.

Plus if the car has any faults/issues they can be sorted the map is applied.

I here you regarding sending out the ECU, but if you can tell where I can get a remap for 125 quid, I would be happy to take it to them. A number of people on here have used ECU Evolution with good success, which is who I was going to use. I think 250 quid for a remap is a lot of money for what they do, which what most will charge you.

£250 is a lot for what "we" do? There's no wonder the tuning industry in the UK is up the swanny..

£250 may seem a lot for someone to plug in a computer and download a map to your car, but you have to consider where that map comes from, development time, research, backup if something goes wrong, support etc.

There have been incidences of people on this forum getting postal remaps where they have ended up having to buy a new ECU after it all went wrong.

I think it's worth the additional cost just for the pace of mind. How do you know you won't damage the ECU removing or replacing it? What if it disappears in the post?

I wouldn't risk it.

I did twice , no probs
