VIDEO REMOVED AS SOMEONE START TAKING P........

Hi,

Lots of question was about fuel consumption

So I decided to add some video to show the real fuel consumption.

The journey was done on Saturday 2-10-2010 Starting form Brighton area to Gloucester area.

From my GPS i have 170 Miles one way

So total was 340 Miles trip

I have done this trip with couple stops but all trip was same day and return.

The car was loaded about 200 kilos including me

Tyres pressure 2.6 bar

Fuel in the tank was about 40 Litres as I fill up on Friday

--------------------------------------------------------------------

From the starting point the first 20 Miles show 66 MPG driving on motorway

------------------------------------------------------------------

The max MPG :

I have reached 78.8 MPG , but they not accurate as more acceleration and they down to 74 MPG

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The last stop at home I have managed to reach 74 MPG of all journey

Driving 70 MPH

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I THINK FOR THIS SIZE CAR THESE MPG REALLY GOOD

WE NEED TO TAKE COUPLE PERCENT FROM THESE MPG AS IT IS COMPUTER CALCULATIONS BUT STILL TO HAVE MORE THEN 60 MPG I THINK IT IS PERFECT .

ADDING 08-10-2010 :

I finished my 40 Litres of fuel an the mileage are : 570 Miles

About 100 Miles has been done in traffic and country roads so 470 Miles it is motorways miles

What do you want to say?

That I’m not driving in the left lane?

'KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING'. Yes it is correct 100 %

But you can see in the video that my speed 70 mph so let me know how you going to overtake me?

You will be need to drive more than 70 mph which is not legal or I’m not right?

If you have 3 lanes motorways is the 1 lane not for trucks and other cars which they driving less than 60-70 mph.

So if I’m driving 70mph I will be overtaking all cars in the first “LEFT†lane so where is the problem.

TheThird lane for speed drivers I mean for drag race?

CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN THIRD LANE PURPOSE WHY IN MOTORWAYS WE HAVE THIRD LANE IS THIS FOR GT CARS? OR FOR DRAG RACE?

AS IM CONFUSED NOW IF IM DRIVING 70MPH DO I NEED TO DRIVE MORE AS THE CAR CAN DRIVE EASY 120 MPH IT WILL BE FUN TO DRIVE THESE SPEEDS BECAUSE I WILL BE OVERTAKING ALL CARS AT SPEED 70MPH

Just my opinion about left lane.

I’m Agree with you that we need to drive in the left lane if you not overtaking, but I can not imagine how it will be in real world the GT CARS JUMPING FROM THE LEFT LANE TO SECOND LANE OVERTAKING CAR AND COME BACK TO LEFT LANE - I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT HOW GT CAR DO THAT ON HIGH SPEEDS AS THEY DRIVE MIN 80 MPH

UK rule is keep to the left unless overtaking - 3 lane motorways or 2 lane daul carrigeways - all the same.

Unless you are a police officer the speed that other motorists travel at is not of your concern (unless they pose an immediate danger to you), nethier is it acceptable to block their path on the basis that "I'm travelling at the legal limit so I will prevent anyone from going any faster".

Keep to the left and chill out. We don't need this type of "holier than thou" attitude - roads are dangerous/congested enough already.

Lane discipline

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. [....]

A question for you. Who is more dangerous; a distracted twonk passively driving down the middle lane of the motorway with no lane discipline while videoing his trip computer at 70 mph or somebody actively driving in the currently most appropriate lane of the motorway at more than 70 mph?

FIRST THING IM NOT DRIVING IN THE SPEED LANE ALL THE TIME :) + ANY DRIVER DISTRACTION IT IS DANGER

SECOND THIS IS WAS TO SHOW MPG NOT TO SHOW LEFT LANE DRIVING STYLE

TRY SOMEONE DRIVE AND RECORD SAME TIME AND TURN TO THE LEFT LANE THAN COME BACK :D

IT IS JUST COUPLE MINUTES OF VIDEO TO SHOW MPG BUT SOMEONE MAKES DECISION AS IT IS DRIVING STYLE :D

IM ALL READY TOLD THAT IM AGREED THAT NEEDS TO DRIVE IN THE LEFT LANE AND I NOT DENIED THAT

BUT I ADD SPEEDING REPLAY TO OTHER DRIVERS THAT AS IF SOMEONE DRIVING 70 MPH SO WHAT THAN ?

What do you want to say?

That I’m not driving in the left lane?

'KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING'. Yes it is correct 100 % - Thanks for agreeing in theory, but in your clip you don't do that.

But you can see in the video that my speed 70 mph so let me know how you going to overtake me? - Your speedometer shows 70mph, which may or may not be quite right, can you be sure you're not doing (say) 67 which means somebody else with a speedo reading 70mph doing (say0 72mph will think you are doing about 65mph and can be legally overtaken. Or you can be realistic and accept that the average speed of traffic on an uncongested motorway is nearer 80mph, like it or not.

You will be need to drive more than 70 mph which is not legal or I’m not right? . As above, and yes, over 70 is not legal and I'm not condoning it.

If you have 3 lanes motorways is the 1 lane not for trucks and other cars which they driving less than 60-70 mph. - Err, no. The nearside lane is for vehicles not overtaking anybody, irrespective of speed.

So if I’m driving 70mph I will be overtaking all cars in the first “LEFT†lane so where is the problem. - In your clip there are no cars in lane 1.

TheThird lane for speed drivers I mean for drag race? - Err, no. The third lane is for overtaking vehicles in the second lane, irrespective of speeds.

CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN THIRD LANE PURPOSE WHY IN MOTORWAYS WE HAVE THIRD LANE IS THIS FOR GT CARS? OR FOR DRAG RACE? - See above. The lanes are not "slow", "average" and "fast".

AS IM CONFUSED NOW IF IM DRIVING 70MPH DO I NEED TO DRIVE MORE AS THE CAR CAN DRIVE EASY 120 MPH IT WILL BE FUN TO DRIVE THESE SPEEDS BECAUSE I WILL BE OVERTAKING ALL CARS AT SPEED 70MPH . Your choice, but if caught and prosecuted I wouldn't sympathise. My point was not related to your speed but your choice of lane.

Just my opinion about left lane.

I’m Agree with you that we need to drive in the left lane if you not overtaking, - so what's your problem? That was the point I was making.

but I can not imagine how it will be in real world the GT CARS JUMPING FROM THE LEFT LANE TO SECOND LANE OVERTAKING CAR AND COME BACK TO LEFT LANE - I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT HOW GT CAR DO THAT ON HIGH SPEEDS AS THEY DRIVE MIN 80 MPH. Try it, it's easy. Basic lane change technique of mirror, signal and manoeuvre if safe to do so...

One last point. I ride a motorcycle as well, and I know of some (I would term) stupid riders who have filmed themselves with a helmet or tank mounted camera riding at illegal speeds on public roads, and in at least 2 cases to my recollection they have been arrested and charged on the basis of the film evidence they have posted on the internet. You might want to take down the videos you posted. This is a genuine word of friendly advice as I expect operating a video camera while driving is as illegal as using a mobile phone when driving.

YOU TALKING TWO DIFFERENT THINGS:

1) CAN YOU SAY THAT WAS MOBILE PHONE ?

2) DOES I MENTION THAT WAS RECORDED BY ME

3) DOES IT HAS PROVE OF ANY E LEGAL ACTION LIKE SPEEDING OR SPEAKING BY PHONE?

4) IF YOU KNOW OR HAVE PROVE THAT TO HAVE CAMERA IS NOT LEGAL ? PLEASE WELCOME TO PUBLISH THESE LAW

VIDEO REMOVED ENJOY

Like I said it was offering a genuinely word of friendly advice. if you can't accept it in that spirit fine. And no, I don't know a specific law against using a video camera while driving. But even if there isn't if i was a police traffic officer I expect there is some broader law i could use. Maybe parliament would not create a specific law as the number of instances where people do it wouldn't merit creation of a new law. Or it could be a video camera would be classed as an "other electronic information device":

Correct: driver not in proper control of vehicle. Min 3 points and 60 pound fine. Whether the driver is using the camera or not, if it's in his line of sight I expect that the same would apply. In any event dangerous and stupid.

2. as for the OP: IMHO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

But this post is not about drivers doing more than 70mph - not your problem......

It's about keeping to the left - ie lane 1 (not the slow slow) and not clogging up 2 lanes of motorway by sitting in lane 2 (ie not the medium speed lane). In this country we drive on the left......unless overtaking. Period

Edited by GordonH

Maybe it would be better if the 3 lanes were marked with the appropiate speed...50mph for 1st lane....60 mph for over taking vehicles in 1st lane....and 70mph for over taking vehicles in the middle lane...and what every tarmac is left is reserved for motorcylists who seem hell bent on doing double the speed limit in the 1st place !!. I simply cant stand them weaving in and out of traffic at high speed thinking they own the bloody roads....and when i do see one who flashed past me i simply say see you in half a mile...dead or alive

Dude, you need to chill out and admit it when you've made a mistake. The Highway Code in the UK states you must drive in the left-hand lane unless you're overtaking. Who made you the Speed Police?? So what if other drivers are driving faster than you, that's their business. Your job is to stay in the left-hand lane.

If you're gonna drive in this country, learn the rules. Driving at speed whilst having an awareness of your surroundings is not inherently unsafe, as anybody that has done the Advance Driving Course will tell you. Plodding along in the middle of the motorway, oblivious to anything around you, IS unsafe.

If everyone kept left unless overtaking, we'd all get where we're going a hell of a lot quicker. Even on 4-lane motorways you often get people driving in the 3rd lane for no reason. WHY!!!!

"WHY IN MOTORWAYS WE HAVE THIRD LANE?"

Perhaps it's to allow the motorway to function correctly when one LGV or PCV overtakes another, with a consequently slow passing rate?

However, we mustn't overlook the possibility that it could have been constructed specifically to annoy you, Incognito.

RTA 1988 as amended - Section 38 (7): A failure on the part of a person to observe a provision of the Highway Code shall not of itself render that person liable to criminal proceedings of any kind but any such failure may in any proceedings (whether civil or criminal, and including proceedings for an offence under the Traffic Acts, the M1Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 or sections 18 to 23 of the M2Transport Act 1985) be relied upon by any party to the proceedings as tending to establish or negative any liability which is in question in those proceedings.

An implied condition of your UK driving licence, therefore, is that you are cogniscent of the Highway Code and must remain so throughout the period of your driving licence, because if you disobey the rules it contains you are committing a criminal offence. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence.

Rule 264: "You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking."
