Goodbye 03' vRS, Hello '07 vRS

Featured Replies

After 4 years of very happy motoring I have traded my black mk1 1.8 vRS for a racing blue mk2 2.0 TDi PD model. Hopefully it'll prove to be as great a car to drive as the car it replaces.

Anything I should be aware of with the mk2 model, any faults or issues?

I made the same change around 4 years ago (from a 53 plate VRS to a 56 VRS PD) and was more than happy with it. The PD engine has a real kick to it which never failed to put a smile on my face. It may not be the best for getting out of a corner quickly but never failed to make me smile thou. I now have the CR engine VRS estate and although it is a smoother etc. it does not quite have the same smile factor. The only thing to check is that it has had the unpdate on the exhaust sensor (not sure when this was fixed on newer cars but worth a check).

I'm looking forward to comparing the PD engine to my 1.8, the test drive is nowhere near long enough to take in much at all. The newer car was a much smoother drive and the braking felt much improved. Thanks for the advice regarding the exhaust sensor, I'll ask the dealer if it has been done or not.

I'm guessing the 07 model I've bought has a Maxidot display? Not sure if this is one or not.

Does this display the speed or is that only on newer models?

Edited by sneeks

That is the maxidot screen but think it is only the FL maxidot that has the speed in km/h displayed.

Thanks, I had a feeling that may be the situation. Roll on Saturday when I collect the car.

It was bought from a dealer in Stirling, Scotland.

My new car :) Roll on Saturday. I discovered today that it also has auto wipers, lights and dimming mirror which is a nice bonus. The only option it is missing appears to be the parking sensors.

I've been told that the exhaust sensor recall work has been done already.

Thanks Curleybar, I'm looking forward to collecting it on Saturday morning. My only concern is the DPF issues I've read about on this forum but hopefully it'll not be a problem.

Collected the car on Saturday and so far I'm very impressed with it. Feels firmer and larger than my 03 plate vRS but a change of car always does feel different until I get used to it. I have the MFD2 sat nav unit in the car and that brings me on to stupid question number 1, how the hell do you pause or stop CD's? I've pressed every button I can see and my CD from the multichanger just keeps on playing

Very nice, I do like the FL model.

Both the above cars the FL and pre-FL looking good

Would be even better with lower springs - IMHO

Enjoy the car. Oh, and you've got xenons too. Someone's specced that nicely for you

Your MFD2 was obviously factory fitted too, as you've got the 'proper' beesting aerial with the in-built GPS antenna.

Yes the xenons are excellent, very impressed with how bright they are compared to the standard headlights on my old vRS.

No complaints over the spec, it has nearly every toy available with the exception of parking sensors which I'll probably get fitted.

Blue is still the best colour ;)

i must agree

Quick question. Why does the bodywork have what looks like stuck on panels/stickers running down from the side of the wheel arch to just below the rear doors? Is it to cover over the side skirt and make it look like one continuous piece of body kit or for an entirely different reason? The area I am meaning is shown in this pic
