Goodbye 03' vRS, Hello '07 vRS

Quick question. Why does the bodywork have what looks like stuck on panels/stickers running down from the side of the wheel arch to just below the rear doors? Is it to cover over the side skirt and make it look like one continuous piece of body kit or for an entirely different reason? The area I am meaning is shown in this pic

I had considered that too but it's such a small area, I'm assuming it cannot be peeled off easily?

The wife's Fabia has them fitted and when I had a little scrape the local body shop replaced one. it's a bit like sticky back thin transparent plastic, positioned into place with water. they are about as thin as ridged cling film, but they have no glue on them and stuck on top of the paint and top clear coat.

Yep, as above. They won't be going anywhere, trust me :)

That's good to know, I had visions of the little gits where I live spotting them and then attempting to peel them off!!

I'm losing faith in the dealership where I bought my vRS from. I've had the car in twice now to get the lumber support fixed on the drivers seat and it is still not fixed and is required to go back for a further visit. First time they diagnosed the problem as a broken frame which they would order new and replace on my second visit to them. They had the car yesterday and when I went to collect at night I was told that they had misdiagnosed the first time and on closer inspection the entire seat base had actually collapsed so they need to order a new one. They blamed the incorrect diagnosis on a visual inspection having been carried out on the first visit rather than a thorough examination.

Other minor things like my headlight washers and rear screen wash not working were clearly missed during the supposed Skoda used car multi-point vehicle inspection check, I'm convinced they never actually checked anything on the car prior to me collecting it.

Yesterday I also highlighted a issue with the climate control to them as I am not convinced it is operating correctly. The fan display sits lit on half way almost constantly and I can hear a whirring noise coming from behind the glovebox area of the car. The service department advised me last night that there is indeed a problem which requires the climate control unit to be replaced, I'm told this requires the dash to be removed. Surely the car computer diagnosis that they are meant to have done would have highlighted a fault on the climate control system? I'm also concerned that my currently rattle and squeak free dashboard will not be so quiet after they have removed and refitted it.

Roll on my cars 2 day visit to them next week!!

I finally got the various issues sorted and hopefully all is OK. Not been able to drive the car much since it was fixed as the snow has currently buried it!!

I am curious regarding the pricing of my car at the dealership in comparison to another of the same age they are selling. My car has a much higher spec (xenons, sat nav, sunroof, auto dimming mirror, auto wipers) and 4k miles less on the clock yet was priced at £300 less than the other car with only one optional extra (parking sensors). The only other difference is my car is blue and the other is red, does this alter the resale value for the dealer?

My new car :) Roll on Saturday. I discovered today that it also has auto wipers, lights and dimming mirror which is a nice bonus. The only option it is missing appears to be the parking sensors.

I've been told that the exhaust sensor recall work has been done already.

That's a lovely car there sneeks B) I also am buying a VRS 07 plate next week. It's a Red one and it looks amazing! Just like yours. I hope you enjoy it and get plenty of pleasure driving it. :)

Goodbye '07 vRS, hello '10 vRS :)

Signed up for a Red Octavia vRS 2.0 TDi CR yesterday and will collect on Tuesday. 17k miles on the clock so it's definitely been used throughout its first year. Trade in price was fair and it's only costing £30 more per month than the car it replaces. Great value to escape the possible injector issues and gain a 2 year warranty. I understand DPF issues are less frequent with this model too?

Yes, CR engine is much better with DPF.

My 10 blue vRS went... I bought an 07 Seat Ibiza FR that lasted 6 weeks, now have a very end of 10 Red Skoda Fabia vRS Estate, and I am very happy with that :)

Congrats on buying the Fabia vRS, my local Skoda dealer let me take the demonstrator out for a couple of hours last weekend and I loved it. I would have ordered one new but the long delays made me buy the 2010 Octavia instead. The Fabia would have cost £1k less with a top spec.

Collecting the new car today, looking forward to it :)

Make sure you put some pictures up sneeks!

Enjoy! emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Car collected at 10am today and then straight to work :( Will take it for a proper drive tonight but during the short 20 mile drive I did manage today I can certainly feel the difference between the PD and CR engines. I will miss the power surge of the old car but I do enjoy the smoothness and quietness of the new one. The restyled dash and bodywork are great, I love the larger wing mirrors.

Enjoying the car but have one concern that needs addressing. When travelling at a steady 70mph I can hear and feel a pulsating droning noise. It's not loud but definitely noticeable and I can feel it vibrating slightly. Is this normal or something I need to get looked at? I've only really noticed it at motorway speeds, 65mph upwards.

The sound coming from the back wheels. If so it may be sawtoothing. Might need geometry set up. I might be wrong though as I'm no expert. There are threads on this try search.

I did check the rear tyres and there is no obvious sign of any unusual wear pattern. I'll mention it to the dealer, possibly a wheel bearing issue?

A quick photo of the car tonight, quality isn't great as I used my phone.

Droning only noticeable at those sorts of speed doesn't usually suggest uneven rear tyre wear. That should make itself known at lower speeds on a smooth road.

I would say look first at wheel balancing, before moving to the likes of wheel bearing investigation. It could be that a wheel weight has become unstuck or moved, or they weren't done properly when tyres were last fitted.

I'll ask the dealer to investigate when they have the car in to fit rear parking sensors.

Any idea if the digital speedo can be adjusted on a non maxidot display to show mph?

Also is the volume of lock/unlock beep selectable? With my old vRS it was a very faint noise.

The car has been into the dealers today and they cannot find the cause of the droning and have advised I see if it develops into a more definite and louder symptom. They have checked all wheels for any play or movement with the bearings and found no issue, they also say that the transmission is OK.

After some strong words with the retailer manager my car was back to the dealer last week for them to investigate the droning problem for a second time. Despite the dealers original insistence that the issue was not wheel bearing related it turned out to be exactly that. Front NS wheel bearing replaced and no more droning noise when above 65mph. Finally happy with my purchase.

Good resolution. Rare that it's actually a bearing and not incorrect suspension alignment though!
