Retrofit ipod interface cable to Columbus

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if this is possible?

I also have a Fabia vRS with the Media in port, and the cable for use with an ipod, which i find very useful.

So my question is, is it the same type of cable for the Columbus unit? I do not have the 6CD changer option just the Aux in 3.5mm jack point, but would like to add my ipod to use in the Superb. Is it a question of simply plugging it in the back and enabling it on the Columbus menu?

Also does anyone know how much this cable costs? As the Fabia one was about £25.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Have you specified MDI as an factory-fit optional extra? If so the cable from your Fabia will work; the media-in port should be in the storage area in the centre arm rest.

If you haven't got the factory fit MDI option then there is a dealer supply retrofit kit that installs the media-in port into to the glove box. Not sure on exact costs but I seem to remember when I was researching this the retrofit kit on its own without installation was close enough to the factory fit option that I retrospectively added MDI to my order.

Best regards

I have a new Superb Elegance which arrived late August (so has the latest head unit with 2 bluetooth options). I had select MDi as factory fit option but it had not been built with this option.

Dealer has now spent 3 days (in which time I was in an Octy - a very poor subsititute) trying to get the dealer fit kit installed / to work and has failed - apparently Skoda UK say it is not currently possible. Does anyone know different or have any advice?

For info getting 29-33mpg from a 1.8 DSG Estate over first 2k miles (in 6 weeks) according to brim to brim readings - but the car brings a huge smile to my face, now just need to think of a nick-name.

Thanks in advance

The MDI kit should be a straightforward installation in the superb, kits are readily available on ebay with plug and play wireing looms. The cable used is exactly the same for all MDI installations.

As part of the solution to installing a bluetooth-based phone kit, I opted for the Fiscon Basic Plus because of its really nice integration into the Columbus system. A bonus is that the Fiscon Basic Plus supports the Bluetooth A2DP audiostreaming protocol. If your phone supports A2DP, then you can listen wirelessly to your mp3 collection over your sound system. Sounded OK to me, and when the phone rings (as it did on my iPhone 4 while I was testing it), it mutes the audio automatically etc. I appreciate that the Fiscon is not the cheapest phone solution, but it gets rid of the need for the MDI kit, and you don't have ugly third party phone kit bits screwed to the dash. In Australia, we don't get any rSAP functionality in the Columbus so any phone solution necessarily requires the addition of a third party bluetooth kit
