wing mirrors

Featured Replies

my wing mirrors take forever to de mist , anyone else have this problem? :(

Have you got the adjustment dial in the correct position? If you're looking out the window of the driver's door, the position marker should be at 9 o'clock. Seems to catch a lot of people out, who've left it on another position. Result is that demist on the mirrors won't function.

Pretty sure that they only work with the rear screen demister also switched on. But, I'll wait for others to correct me on that.

That's true of most cars but not the octy, you just need to have the mirror adjuster in the demist position - marked by a heated screen symbol

As others have said you need to turn the knob so the white dot is in the 9 oclock position. i too thought mine were not working until i read the manual! (i had a mk1 vrs before & thought it would be the same as that but its not!) mine de mist within a min or 2 max. :)

speaking of wing mirrors, if I select the right one to adjust, the left also adjust, but if I select the left to adjust, it alone adjusts. Any ideas anyone?

cheers

If you have Maxidot you can change the adjustment behaviour in the setup menu.

... you need to turn the knob so the white dot is in the 9 oclock position....

Just make sure you turn the control knob anticlockwise round to the 9 o'clock position not clockwise.

The mirrors on ours are fairly slow to de-mist fully. They work fine but it can take a good 10 minutes to clear them completely. And as someone stated they are independent of the rear heated screen and I know that because they still worked when the fuse for our heated rear screen blew.

Mine aren't fast to desist nor the car itself. The Mrs astra beats it hands down in that respect and my 13 year old BMW e36 was in another league again. The BMW mirrors stay heated permanent too to stop rain drops forming on there which worked really well.

And if you haven't got maxidot, the synchronised mirror adjustment can be switched off with VAGCOM/VCDS.

That must be a new/FL Maxidot option anyway, as I've never seen the option to change that in a pre-FL Maxidot equipped Octy. I've always just turned it off in VCDS, as it annoys me. The angle required for each mirror is different, so why have them adjust in unison?? :dull:

Hi Pete

Have the samething with my mk2 june 2008 ambient, only noticed after it went in to be checked for none related problem, spoke to dealer and asked if it had a software upgrade and he told me it was normal to aid when reverse parking, not so convinced thats what got me on here looking for an answer.

My ocy is not maxidot so do not have access to adjustment as they have.If you get a resolution let me know.

0deg here enjoy your summer you lucky thing.

Paul

Think mine operate in conjunction with the rear window element;heavily frosted up this morning and thawed out in minutes(I took a while longer though!)

My pre FL had the maxi dot option to adjust the mirrors together or individually.

My mirrors were always slow to demist, I applied aquapel to them in an attempt to keep them dry on the move which seemed to work. The passenger mirror always cleared faster than the driver side.

Just had to do the full de-icing and demisting thing (gosh it's cold out there), and the mirror's demist pretty quickly..couple of minutes at most - both at the same rate and unrelated to operation of the HRW.
